Froch : "Bute doesn't deserve to be the champion"

Recommended Posts

Probably the usual tabloid sensationalism;

Froch thinks Saturday’s Bute-Magee matchup will be a good one. “Lucian Bute is a decent fighter that deserves respect,” he said. “He’s a good technical boxer with good ring awareness and decent hand speed. He’s also shown in his last fights that he can dig a bit. Obviously all of the top Super Middleweights are tied up in SHOWTIME’s fantastic Super Six tournament and for Bute, Brian Magee is a step in the right direction towards getting any real credibility from fight fans.”

This just popped up on Fightnews today...

Gotta agree with Carl Froch - which doesn't happen too often.

Bute has been getting a free pass from the fans and most boxing writers. The serious fighting has been in the Super 6 which has left Bute scratching around for decent fighters to face. It almost seemed Bute was quite comfortable to just milk the belt and make comfortable defences in Canada.

This Showtime contract should see Bute matched at the top level which is where he should be with his undoubted ability.

Bute was signed to fight Andrade in a rematch and got that out of the way A MONTH before the first round of the super 6. He's had relatively easy fights since then though lets be honest he's one of the winners of the Super 6, he's managed to fight at home, against dross, for decent paydays, keep his IBF title, and now has a chance to force the Super 6 winners hand by winning the WBC Silver title. All in all a success. Look at those guys who have been in the Super 6

Taylor-Retired

Abraham-Disgraced and dominated

Dirrell-Permanently injured? Definately looked down on by fans

Green-Laughed at

Kessler-Injured and been out for a year

Froch-Needs to win the tournament to get anything out of it

Ward-The big winner so far

Johnson-Could be a surprise

Bute has taken care of his mandatory and will almost certainly get to choose which unified champion he wants....not a bad place to be...

I agree with the majority of your post.

Froch has received huge credit for being in this tournament - recently read in Boxing Monthly, Glyn Leach singing his praises for his tough schedule. Think he stated no other UK fighter has ever completed such a tough schedule.

Johnson is Johnson while Kessler regained alot by beating Froch. Abraham is mainly viewed as too small for the weight as he's proved ineffective.

Ward has emerged as a top US fighter from just a prospect at the beginning.

I agree on Dirrell, Green and Taylor.

Mind could Taylor have beaten Miranda, Brinkley and Zuniga - very possibly.
