WelshDevilRob Posted March 1, 2011 Share Posted March 1, 2011 Alvarez-Hatton: "Weight" Being Stacked Against Matthew By Mark Vester According to veteran reporter Jeff Powell of Daily Mail , moves are being made that are going to put Matthew Hatton at a bigger disadvantage in Saturday's fight with unbeaten Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. The fight is going to happen at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The fight is contracted for a catch-weight of 150-pounds. When the contract was signed, there was no title at stake. Last week the WBC approved Alvarez-Hatton for their vacant 154-pound title. Powell was advised that the WBC is going to order both fighters to compete at the full division limit of 154-pounds. Hatton is a smaller welterweight who is moving up to take the fight. To make matters worse for Hatton, Powell was told that Golden Boy Promotions will move the weigh-in from mid-afternoon to noon, which is going to provide Alvarez with additional time to rehydrate. McBride Posted March 1, 2011 Share Posted March 1, 2011 I just dont believe it tbh. They cant make Hatton weigh 154. When Mayweather fought Oscar for that title he only weighed 150, to Oscars 154. Sheils Posted March 1, 2011 Share Posted March 1, 2011 I can see where the WBC would be coming from, but all would depend on when they actually made the ruling. If it were to have been when it was decided that the title was on the line - then fair enough. However, last minute changes which are so critical in a fight will show the WBC up. Not when it was contracted at 150 and the titles been added in the last week before the fight, thats just cheap and a poor way to give Canelo his first title. If the WBC are asking fighters to go by their rules in return for contesting their belt then its upto the fighters to agree or not. If Hattons people still want the 150lb limit as originally agreed (and fair enough they should want that) then Goldenboy and Alvarez etc should have the decency to honour it.
