Part 2: This is the story of how Bill the winner got crowned Bill the King

Recommended Posts

It was the early 1920s when “King Ward” sent a challenge out to the best man in Cork and if Bill the Winner didn't accept this challenge he would have been known as a coward. There were rumours that Ward and Bill met halfway in a car park somewhere, where the legendary bare-knuckle fight went down in Ireland. But the main story that travellers still talk about ‘til this day is this: Bill, being the fighting man he was, embarked on the two-month journey from Cork to Dublin, where the two men had their first encounter at the city’s horse fair. King Ward was supposed to have been the best bare-knuckle fighter Ireland had to offer at this time and to be the king you've got to beat the king.
