Faulks
Bristol boxer Danny Butler has broken away from Ricky Hatton just weeks after signing a 12-month deal to campaign under the former world light welterweight champion's promotional banner. The split comes following a row over Butler's decision to accept an offer to challenge Darren Barker for the British and Commonwealth middleweight titles at Brentwood earlier this month. Butler took the fight at short notice and was stopped in the seventh round, yet still earned £12,000, the biggest payday of his career. Although the 22-year-old Bristolian is managed by Tex Woodward and boxes out of the Spaniorum Farm gym in Compton Greenfield, Hatton Promotions officials took exception to Butler accepting what represented a golden opportunity to break into the big-time and terminated his contract. The British Masters champion will in future be promoted by Bristol-based former womens world champion Jane Couch, who is negotiating a deal which could see Butler take part in the Prizefighter series for a second time. "There has been a disagreement and Danny is no longer with Hatton Promotions," said Couch. "They didn't want him to take the Barker fight, but the final decision was Danny's to make and he felt he couldn't turn it down. "It was a fantastic chance for him to fight for two titles and make a name for himself. He may have lost, but we still believe he made the right choice." Butler reached the semi-finals of the Prizefighter middleweight series at the York Hall in Bethnal Green last year and hopes to take part in the light middleweight competition in 2010. Couch revealed: "There is talk of them putting on an event for junior middleweights at the end of February and I know Danny can still get down to 11st 4Ibs. Nothing has been finalised as yet, but I'm talking to the organisers with a view to Danny being involved. "Splitting with the Hattons is not the end of the world, because Tex and I will continue to look after him, just as we have always done." http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/sport/Butler-splits-Hatton-following-fight-disagreement/article-1610119-detail/article.html
