Bad news for the boxing fan. Pavlik v Williams OFF

Recommended Posts

NEW YORK (AP) - Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has called off his title defense against Paul Williams on Dec. 5 because of an infected left hand.

The bout had been scheduled for Atlantic City and Pavlik was expected to begin training this week.

The staph infection already pushed back the fight once. Pavlik promoter Top Rank said on Wednesday the fighter had not fully recovered.

Top Rank president Todd duBoef said that once Pavlik was medically cleared his organization will try to line up another bout.

This is a real shame, i for one was really looking forward to this bout. Could of been an excellent end to the year cry//

Mmmm makes be wonder if Kellys so called drinking problems might be bigger than we think and this might be an excuse?

Dont think so. Someone on BB posted a picture of his left hand, and it looks as though he'd cut himself on a glass. Then again perhaps you're right, maybe he had been boozing and put his weight on the rim of one. lol//

This fight would have rapped up the boxing calender well. I'd rather it get postponed/canceled if Pavlik won't be fully fit.

Hopefully, Paul Williams gets a replacement fight - maybe someone like Kermit Cintron?

December is still looking like a good month with RJJ vs Danny Green, Marco Huck vs Ola Afolabi, Pascal vs Diaconu 2, Vitali Klitschko vs Johnson, Diaz vs Malignaggi 2, Tim Bradley and Vic Darchinyan fighting on the same bill. Winky Wright and Bernard Hopkins back in action.

Also a cracking domestic match-up between Kevin Mitchell and Ricky Burns. Not a bad month all in all for the end of the year.
