  1. As I said the other day , nobody forced you to come to the ring auditioning for Nazi Game of Thrones. Didn't seem to bother him in round 1, or occur to him during post-fight interviews...
  2. I doubt it - even if it happens, if Fury fights like that against Joshua he wins. Wilder's trainer now saying maybe his ringwalk outfit sapped his energy - apart from sounding ridiculous, that's tough luck; nobody forced you to come to the ring auditioning for Nazi Game of Thrones.
  3. Dunno why - he's been a fantasist almost since the day he arrived - every fight is obviously rigged, except he never calls it in advance; every fighter who puts two or three wins together after turning pro is "Da goods" and everyone who loses is going for a trilogy. The only question has been whether he's genuine or some boxing-forum-based performance artist. Anyway, here we are on what may be my last night as a boxing viewer, and the dilemma is the same as 18 months ago: Do I want the probable drug cheat obnoxious idiot to win, or do I go for the windmilling, clean obnoxious idiot who hits like Dempsey? I think neutral, but I can't help but admire Fury's courage.
  4. Yes. Honestly, it's not fucking complicated - instead of sharing fucking Muhammid Ali and Jack Johnson stories while eulogising them for their courage and principles, show some of your own - it's zero risk and you've done something to try to make the world a microscopic bit better. But it's precisely because boxing fans have no regard for their sport that we've ended up with boxing the way it is: "It's outrageous that AJ and Wilder are still dodging each other...ooh AJ's fighting David Price - I gotta get the PPV!" I stopped being a boxing fan some time ago, and when WWE wrestlers and fans are showing more moral courage than boxing fans, there is simply no hope for the sport.
  5. Oddly enough, I don't get my news from CNN, I get it from the sort of places I cited - the BBC is similarly useless, but there are plenty of whistleblowers, primary sources and independent monitoring bodies that give a perfectly good picture. I have, for example, criticised the idiotic behaviour of the US over Kaspersky and Huawei, but it doesn't mean China and Russia aren't guilty of massive abuses of human rights and the democratic process; if opposition leaders start getting thrown in jail or murdered in the US/UK there can be some parallel drawn, but until then it's not even close. Nigeria is an entirely different proposition to DR Congo or Saudi - The Nigerian government is a hell of a lot better though a long way from perfect. But it's the same as Apartheid South Africa - if the government of a country is wilfully persecuting its black population, it should not be assisted in glossing over the fact because "Look over here! We've got all these big-name sports stars!" If the Hearns want to pursue money over morals it's on them, but if the fans are prepared to see murderous regimes rewarded with cash and PR, they look rather silly whining about undeserved title shots or doctored gloves.
  6. Your constitution grants you the freedom to hold such beliefs, despite being factually wrong.
  7. "Reliable" sources like Amnesty International, the UN, Liberty and the quite open way the Saudis in particular treat their people? The United States government certainly has blood on its hands, as does the UK, but are as mere amateurs when compared to the Saudis and the leaders of military coups. The Khasoggi case alone is a perfect parallel - the US government wants Snowden in prison and living a miserable existence; the Saudis arranged for Khasoggi to be kidnapped and murdered in a foreign embassy. So no, I've never been there, and I've never been cleaning anything when it went off.
  8. Sure, let's encourage the Hearns' plan to assist oppressive regimes in glossing over their abysmal human rights record.
  9. I only knew the guy from"The Most Boring Fight Ever Staged" with Johnny Nelson, didn't realise he'd been something of a legend.
  10. His level of opposition is not sufficient to make that claim - Foreman surely has a better claim to the title - he looked ike even his arm punches were lethal, whereas Wilder's power comes when he throws himself at his opponent. Always thought Wilder's power was the real thing though - never rated him as a boxer but the way people react to some of his punches is scary.
  11. Nice try but I ceased to be a current boxing fan some time ago, and I literally watch no fights now except if it's Wilder/Fury/Joshua vs each other - I'm curious to see how that turns out. But boxing has squandered its credibility in recent years: anyone who wants to be a pro can just buy a licence, it seems; failed drug tests(actual, proven ones) are simply dismissed without significant sanction or opprobrium; multi-millionaires continue to squabble over percentage points of squillion-dollar purses; new belts are minted every other week for some bullshit reason or other; the list goes on and on and on. Perhaps you'll say "'Twas ever thus" and reel off a dozen examples from history. God knows I never claimed to be an expert, but I became a real boxing fan in the early 2000s, stayed up 'til dawn to watch everyone from Mike Tyson to Ivan Calderon, olympic and world championship boxing, and less than 20 years later I find myself clinging to the wreckage as idle curiosity has me awaiting the outcome of a round robin between a drug-cheat, a model and a cretin. I might manage a tiny spark of enthusiasm, however, to say Thomas Hauser, Canelo Alvarez and WBs A, O and C can all go fuck themselves:tea:
  12. I think he probably meant Lomachenko, though he's pretty dismissive of the lower weight classes so is unlikely to give serious plaudits to Inoue and the like.
  13. I didn't realise Henry was anyone in particular when he first joined here, but I knew he had ridiculous levels of boxing knowledged the moment I started reading his quiz questions. I think there were maybe two I could even attempt to answer out of the dozens he posted, and of course my answers were always way off. Nice bloke too.
  14. No, but surely if you suspect they have actual concussion that's dangerous, rather than just needing a minute or two to get their bearings? It may be the same thing medically speaking, I'm not sure.
  15. Re: Greatest of all-time according to Boxrec I wouldn't say I know him; we had a conversation when Boxing-Central collapsed and Bones told me there were no plans to relaunch it. I wrote to John asking to buy the domain, but all I got was excuses: "I'm not relaunching it, it's too much work and I'm always busy as it is." "Great, name your price." "I'm not sure, I'll have to think about it. I might do something with it." "You said you were too busy." "Yeah, I am." "OK, what if you just let me rebuild and run the site at my expense?" "I dunno. I'll think about it. Maybe I will sell it, I'm not sure..." I'd been warned he was a weird guy, nobody told me what a pain in the arse he was.
