Williams suffers humiliating loss

British heavyweight champion Danny Williams lost on points to the unheralded Carl Baker in Prizefighter.

Sheffield's Baker weighed in at over 20st and had too much power for Williams in the three-round fight.

The Brixton-based fighter, 36, was down twice in the opening round and twice more in the second before rallying in the third, but it was too late.

Baker later lost to Coleman Barrett, who will face former Olympic champion Audley Harrison in the final.

Harrison, who has lost four of his last eight contests, stopped Northern Ireland's Scott Belshaw after two rounds of his quarter-final.

Heavyweight rivals Williams and Harrison had been expected to meet in the final, giving Williams a chance for revenge over the 2000 Olympic gold medallist.

Williams won their first meeting in 2005 only to be stopped in the third round of their rematch a year later.

But the defeat at London's ExCel Arena throws into serious doubt the future of a man who has a win over former undisputed world champion Mike Tyson on his record.

The Prizefighter event sees eight heavyweights compete in four quarter-finals, followed by semis and a final all on the same night.

Each contest lasts a maximum of three rounds, with the overall winner pocketing £32,000.

Barrett beat Welshman Scott Gammer in his quarter-final as all three judges gave it to the Irishman by 29-28 margins.

He was never a boxer that greatly impressed me, he rarely came into a fight in peak condition his one moment of glory came when he beat a sadly well passed it Tyson if you look at his face after that fight he was as amassed as every one else that Tyson went over so easy.

At one time he was the best in Britain but that says more about how bad the rest were than how good he was definitely time to hang em up
