WelshDevilRob
Donaire is Willing: “I Want Roman Gonzalez!” By Ryan Maquiñana After learning he was among three candidates to be WBA light flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez’s next opponent on Oct. 1, Glenn “Filipino Bomber” Donaire made it known that he’s interested in the bout. “I'm getting goosebumps at the chance to fight Roman Gonzalez,” Donaire said from his home in San Leandro, Calif. “I hope they take me. I'd take that fight in a heartbeat. Two weeks ago I was at 117-118 [pounds]. If the fight's in October, I can make 108 easily." According to notifight.com’s Pablo Fletes, the Nicaraguan “Chocolatito” is choosing from three Filipinos—Donaire, Denver Cuello, and former world champ Rodel Mayol. Donaire has unsuccessfully challenged for world championships twice, the first to then-IBF flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan (whom younger brother Nonito knocked out for the title afterward), and the second to IBF 108-lbs. holder Ulises Solis in 2008. Since then, Donaire has been inactive, working up to 70 hours a week as a delivery truck driver to support his family. "I've seen a lot of his fights, and he likes to bang,” Donaire said of Gonzalez. “If you look at when I fought Darchinyan, I was too small. It would be different at 108. I'd love to show everyone my new style that I've worked on with my dad. I want that fight. I want Gonzalez if they give me a shot." Gonzalez will fight on the undercard of Toshiaki Nishioka's WBC junior featherweight title defense against Rafael Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. londoner
Glenn doesn't deserve a shot at Roman Gonzalez. You should have to earn a World title shot. That's how it used to be in boxing.
