fightfan
Amir Khan? Khans speed and flurry's far better than previous Mayweather opponents?
RAZZ-MCFC
Hmmm tough question really. Judah had a lot of skill, probably not as much as Amir but he was tricky, slick and had decent skills. Just checked his record and completely forgot about Marquez! He was out of his depth against Floyd but his boxing skills far surpass Khan's in my opinion, a better technical boxer, much better counter puncher, better defensively Obviously you mentioned speed and flurrys, none of Floyd's opponents can match Khan in that area, but you mentioned 'skills' which doesn't really relate to speed and flurrys, so in terms of skill i'd say Marquez definitely surpasses Khan. Well, this thread is about Floyd actually facing an opponent with a high degree of skill and with the weight that Marquez had to put on and Floyd not abiding by the 145lb agreement that got him fined, I'd say that any skill that Marquez had for that bout was cancelled out because of it. Just like it will be when he faces Manny. I think Judah, Castillo and Genaro Hernandez are the fighters that Floyd has faced with the most skill. It doesn't really say 'that showed skill', just says 'with', which i imagine just means a fighter who possesses that skill. I'd still include Marquez in the list. It's subjective i suppose. davemurphy
Sure he has.................just not since 9/11 ;) P.S. I guess Castillo was slightly after that, but you get the point.
McBride
How is a guy that stands square on, and drops his hands to throw these fast flurries considered to be skillful? Meat, and two veg to a really skillful fighter like Mayweather, he knocks Khan out with straight right hands inside 6 rounds.
londoner
Well, Floyds' two best opponents IMO were Corrales at 130lbs and Castillo at 135lbs. So is Khan better than them? I think it's a tough one. In theory Khan is better as he's a genuine 140-147lb fighter despite starting his career at 135lbs. But Corrales and Castillo were both top names at 135lbs. Could they have made it up to 140lbs to fight Khan? I think they both beat the early 135lbs Khan easily but the 140lbs version? I think p4p all 3 are about equal right now. But i think Khan will go on to have more success than those two.

Skill doesn't enter into it, he just throws a bunch of shots (many missing their target), and then moves away. Amir's power at 140 isn't much at all either. Dimitry 'Wet Blanket' Salita excepted. Shane Mosley also had very fast hands, until Vernon Forrest took that away with his jab, and right hand counters. Which is exactly what the far superior talented Mayweather would do to young Khan. The Galveston Giant
I would say Floyd has fought a lot of opponents with more skill than Amir Khan but not many, if any, with the same speed. Speed won't count for much though if he can't connect properly with anything. Amir relies heavily on his speed and he will struggle once he starts to lose it. WelshDevilRob
I think Floyd has the timing, accuracy and counterpunching skills to be able to counteract Khan's speed. I'm not sure this fight is ever going to hapen and its gotta be Manny before a Khan fight.
