Can Jamaine Oriz beat Lomachenko?

Vasyl Lomachenko (16-2, 11 Kos) vs Jamaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 Kos).

Lomachenko, 34, is one of boxing's best. A three weight World champion who has won his last two fights. He lost to Teofimo Lopez, in 2020. He's beaten Masayoshi Nakatani and Richard Commey more recently, despite being involved in the Ukraine vs Russia conflict.

Ortiz, 26, is coming off his biggest win. He outpointed Jamel Herring, last time out. He was held to a draw by Joseph Adorno, in 2021. His competition has been a lot lower than Lomachenko's. He's never tasted defeat as a professional.

Date: 29th October 2022
Venue: Madison Square Garden Theater, New York

Is this a gimme for Lomachenko or does 'The Technician' have a good chance of an upset?

The question will be how diminished - if at all - Loma will be from the layoff to the life-altering experience of defending his country. How important is boxing to him now? Perhaps vs. an elite opponent that question may be more easily answered but does he let his guard down just enough for Ortiz to take advantage? Perhaps impossible to answer but factors to take into consideration.  Loma's always portrayed a determined and focused individual so my read is he won't let this fight be a banana skin for him. Interesting nickname for Ortiz; do we expect he'll be able to "out-technician" Loma? Not me.

TopRank appears to be catching on to the PBC model. Sign up as many fighters as you can in the same division and you largely control it. Loma's in line for a shot at the Haney-Kambosos winner and Shakur's now at 135 as well. Just how any promoter would like it; no risk regardless of the result.

Herring is pretty much done as a serious fighter. I wouldn't put much stock into that victory, only that Ortiz deserves to be in there against Loma. But him as a candidate to beat Loma? Doubt it.

Not a prime Loma,  but no one knows where the lad is these days, either mentally or physically.

Plus the age factor.   Loma's style is all about movement and speed, and smaller fighters tend to lose it faster than larger fighters.

-  And Loma is 34 years old.

Yeah, maybe, but Loma is a phantom and phantoms don't really lose their edge as easily as normal human beings. 😉

Maybe, a moderator could fix that typo? 🙄

--- Bos your go to maderator!

'pologies for creating another thread as since I didn't know who Oriz or his twin Ortiz was and made another thread.

For a comeback now as a Ukrainian War Veteran, you'd think the pro Ukrainian Deep State in this country that has been arming and sending tech aide like Elon Musk has done, you'd think we might have heard at least a peep out of this promotion, but nope.

Ortiz looks good enough and problematic enough for a high mileage, aging Loma who has gotten off his lifetime of boxing preparations.

But I have no idea what his physical and mental state may be, but if Ortiz is a stinker as his record suggests, those types unless being KOed never make a fighter look good fighting him.
