iamasadlittleboy
Mares wins a decision after landing...maybe 30-40 low blows WITHOUT a single deduction. In fact Mares scored a knockdown from a blatant low blow IN FRONT of the referee...disgusting job by Russell Mora who really does look like he was paid off. If you watch it watch it with a pen in hand and count the low blows...and the warnings that are given to Mares. Add that to a slip in the opening round deemed a knock down against Agbeko and you've a complete **** up. I gave up scoring it thought it was "close" the official cards were 113-113 115-111 x twice to Mares
iamasadlittleboy
Mora was interviewed afterwards and claimed "they were on the belt line"...thankfully Showtime clled him up on it and even said to his face "you way off" This guy was the same guy who tried to get Montiel killed against Donaire and who deducted Katsidis TWICE for low blows against Guerrero. This guy isn't fit to be in a ring.
Joe Ko
Just watched the fight, worse refereeing I have seen in a boxing match. Crazy, easily about 30 low blows. I think Agbeko could have won this fight, Mares was decent. I wanna see a rematch.
iamasadlittleboy
I think Agbeko should have had a DQ win, how Mora can claim "i saw the punch, it was on the belt line" is a mystery.
grapevine241
tough fight to score, i had it for mares wide on the cards but it was a close fight in the ring. the low blows were disgusting. im all for keeping the ref out of a fight, but last night was just shameful. a few points and then a DQ would have been acceptable all credit to Jim Gray for the post fight interviews, good job. im inclined to feel sorry for mares that his first title win has a cloud over it, but hey... that's his fault for throwing the low blows. a rematch should happen onces agbeko's nuts heal

iamasadlittleboy
How the fuck did he miss that? How can he then claim that he would "like to take my time" or "sit down and think about it". How can he claim they were on the belt line when he repeatedly warned Mares to keep them up?

Zippy
Wow, what a way to lose a belt. That was the worst reffing I've seen in a long time. I'm glad Jim Gray interviewed Russell Mora afterwards and told him what he really thought. Mares was never going to admit landing low blows on the post fight interview but I hope he gives Agbeko a rematch.
littleman370
i agree with everyone that was terrible reffing. i tend to be soft on belt line level shots as i don't often think those are intentional (barring a high number, of course). however, even if you excuse the particularly excessive belt-line shots, he still had 4-5 good hard low blows. an interesting thing, i think, to consider is how the fight might have gone if mora docked mares early. i can't imagine mares being dumb enough to continue hitting low all fight, but that "body" work was extremely effective all night long. so...does this make mares a dirty fighter? he's not the mold of a dirty fighter given that all reports suggest he's a very nice young kid, and it's not like he was wailing away on agbekos balls on purpose (i think)

donlevy
I thought it had gotten to a point where Agbeko had fallen so far behind that he needed a knockout before the start of the ninth round.I gave him the fourth round and Mares pretty much every other round.A rematch is warranted simply on the basis of the repeated low blows throughout the fight. Skav
That type of poor officiating is up there with the likes of Reid vs Ottke. Hope he gets struck off, the useless POS.
