RAZZ-MCFC
After an article was posted about Hopkins saying he'd stop Tommy Hearns, how do you guys see fights between Hopkins and Hearns/Hagler playing out? All 3 are obviously elite level fighters, but who do you think would win? I know a lot of you will say Hearns and Hagler easily, but with Hopkins spoiling tactics, i don't think it'd be as wide as a lot of you may think. There would be no knockouts in either fights in my opinion. Tommy was a great boxer, but with Bernard's great inside fighting skills and ability to rough it up, could Hearns be as effective a boxer as what we've seen? thoughts? londoner
I think Hopkins could spoil Hagler but i still think Hagler would win on points eventually. I'm not sure how well Hopkins could spoil Hearns' tactics. Hearns was relentless and i'm not sure how Hopkins could stop him punching. I think Hagler and Hearns both beat Hopkins by UD. Wheelchair
Hopkins loses both these fights by a wide UD, or maybe even a late KO.
chaconfan
Re: Bernard Hopkins vs Marvin Hagler/Tommy Hearns Hopkins often held and found various other ways to spoil and make interesting matchups into borefests. He would not be able to trick these two veterans, nor would he be able to KO either of them. Both would imo smash him to bits and massively outwork him. A peak Hagler would have beaten Hopkins the same way Calzaghe did (pressure and volume) but more decisively. Hearns would be more of a pick 'em but I tend to think his speed would give him the edge. I'm not sure Hopkins' spoiling tactics would have much effect. I don't recall either being "spoiled" in their long careers. Even Leonard would have been beaten if Richard Steele had been less tolerant of his holding.
chaconfan
Re: Bernard Hopkins vs Marvin Hagler/Tommy Hearns I was at the Leonard bout live. I have also watched it many times.....NEVER ONCE, HAS ANY PERSON EVER SAID TO ME OR ANYONE IN EARSHOT THAT LEONARD HELD TOO MUCH IN THAT FIGHT OR ANY OTHER
Tonezzz
Re: Bernard Hopkins vs Marvin Hagler/Tommy Hearns The only won who really beats Bernard Hopkins is father time and he often loses to Hopkins. Hopkins would go the distance either way but would have trouble sustaining a convincing assault on a peak stocking Hagler ,despite all the clever tricks Hopkins has in his arsenal. GianMan
Re: Bernard Hopkins vs Marvin Hagler/Tommy Hearns Hopkins could frustrate just about anybody, even though im a big fan of Hagler, i see Hopkins edging out a decision.
LondonRingRules
Re: Bernard Hopkins vs Marvin Hagler/Tommy Hearns --- Popkorn was mostly fraudulent during his time with King and Golden Boy. If he thought Trinidad was tough, Hagler was infinitely tougher and more dangerously skilled. More heart too, Hagler all day.
