Otley Snr
Looks like SKY have hung up their gloves on PPV boxing due to mismatches and crap under cards. This could be great turn of event for fans who might get boxing back on free terrestrial TV. Hope this happens cause boxing fans have been shafted for quiet sometime now and also bring back boxing to the mainstream public job biscuit (well done SKY...please stick to your word)!!! eh eh!!! Joe Ko
David Haye killed sky PPV all on his own.
brooklynbrawler
David Haye killed sky PPV all on his own. He was just the final nail in the coffin with the Harrison "fight" and then pulling his very own Audley Harrison against Wlad... Warren has been milking it for years, and imo Khan was the first one who started getting PPV status for nonsense fights. Some of the pish he's fought and looked for a premium for it too, and now he won't even fight on regular Sky Sports, the greedy b*stard!
davemurphy
Otley Snr, I'm not so sure that the elimination of PPV's will necessarily mean more fights on terrestrial TV, it might just mean that those fights don't get made at all.
iamasadlittleboy
Have Sky said no to PPV or is it a case of "If there is a truly PPV worth card we'll have it, otherwise we'll not bother"?
Joe Ko
Have Sky said no to PPV or is it a case of "If there is a truly PPV worth card we'll have it, otherwise we'll not bother"? I think it could be that. I think if Khans gets that Mayweather fight they will be all over that, maybe even Kell Brook vs Khan.
WelshDevilRob
Sounds good but lets hope they aren't turning their back on boxing all together.
davemurphy
Good point, there's really no definitive message we can take from this announcement since we don't really know their intent. If it's to quite gouging the public by peddling suspect PPV's that shouldn't be PPV's then I applaud them for that, but if it results in less Boxing on TV or even as Rob suggests that they might back off of Boxing all together, that's NOT good news! I guess we wait and see what they have in mind.
londoner
I haven't read/heard anything about Sky ditching PPV boxing. As for them ditching boxing altogether, that wouldn't make sense (as leaving boxing off free to air TV doesn't). People watch boxing. I don't know what it is about these TV networks but whenever boxing seems to get some media attention the fight sells. Boxing needs to be on the TV. irondave85
Let's face it, before 1996, PPV boxing didn't even exist in the UK and Ireland and we still got to see the big fights. The system just got abused and milked for all it was worth and eventually the paying public just said "f*ck that* and turned their back on lot of substandard cards. Now I don't think Sky should dump it altogether. If there's a genuine super-card that warrants a PPV price tag (ie. the Judgement Night show from 1996) then I think most will gladly fork out the extra dosh. But when people are asked to pay extra for a card headlined by a British title fight between two novices (DeGale-Groves), I think enough is enough. I wouldn't worry about the big fights not getting made. Collins-Benn-Eubank all fought each other without PPV backing and they were MUCH bigger fights than the likes of DeGale-Groves, Khan-Salita etc. Plus, Sky's US coverage back in the early to mid 90's was superb. We got to see superfights like the Bowe-Holyfield trilogy, De La Hoya-Chavez etc. for nothing. Nah, I think this is a good thing and fair play to Sky for taking a stand against greedy promoters. Wheelchair
It'd be a big money-spinner, so I reckon they'd get it. Khan's Dad is a big enough whore for more money anyway. He'd open his legs for a few quid more.
RAZZ-MCFC
Khan-Mayweather will be on Primetime, no doubt about it. Both of them are linked to Golden Boy and GB have boycotted all their fighters from going on Sky, or that's the way it looks after the whole Khan fiasco. Both Khan and Floyd are the only two fighters currently using Primetime, it's a no brainer for GB if they fight each other. Doesn't make sense for them to give it Sky free to air when they can make it PPV on Primetime.
