Khan doesn't want to fight me - Mayweather

Unbeaten American legend Floyd Mayweather Jnr has claimed that Amir Khan is not serious about fighting him next year.

Khan has been telling anyone who will listen that he has a three-fight plan mapped out for himself: one more at light-welterweight in December, then a clash at welterweight in early 2012 before taking on Mayweather.

Mayweather has previously seemed willing to entertain the idea of fighting Khan, but now seems to be distancing himself from the prospect, which may have something to do with Manny Pacquiao's new-found willingness to meet his drug-testing demands.

Jessie Vargas, the unbeaten 22-year-old American light-welterweight, would be a better fit for Khan, according to Mayweather. "Jessie Vargas wants to know why Amir Khan is ducking and dodging," he told fighthype.com. "[Jessie] is asking for him. He's my fighter and he wants [Khan]."

When questioned on Khan's desire to fight him, Mayweather suggested that the Brit did not represent a big enough draw. "He don't really want [to fight]; not selling 2500 tickets and having a bunch of giveaways," he said. "No, he don't want that."

Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) returns to the ring on September 17 for a WBC welterweight title clash against Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs). It will be his first bout since outpointing fellow countryman Shane Mosley during May 2010.

I agree with Skav, it's interesting that just as it became a much more attractive fight to most people, that it became less attractive to Floyd :) Good luck trying to push a Khan- Jesse Vargas fight, I hope you realize your guy will be fighting for peanuts, right?

Now I do realise there are some serious Mayweather haters on this forum, but are they really stupid enough to claim that Amir Khan poses a threat to him?

LMFAO. Amir is a good British / Euro level kid, but his brain is incapable of working out what Mayweather can do.

Floyd takes Amir to school 10 times out of 10!

Amir is a good world-level kid - he's beaten Maidana, Kotelnik, Judah, Malignaggi. They're not amazing names but the division is hardly setting the world alight right now. I also think he beats Bradley every time because his hand speed is a nightmare for almost anyone. I even think he'd give Floyd a few issues for a round or two until Mayqweather adjusted to the speed and took him to school.

Where did anybody, including myself, say that Khan poses a threat to Mayweather?

Well if he is talking Mayweather, he must be talking 147. So you decide who you think are excellent names in that division, or at least good enough to tap his whiskers, and see how good they really are.

He's talking Mayweather 3 fights down the line, not immediately. Maidana tapped his whiskers and he survived.

I don't see anyone at welterweight causing too big a problem for Khan to be honest until he gets to Pacquiao or Mayweather.

Maidana also tapped the shot to bits Erik Morales whiskers, and nothing happened, also the oft beaten, and indeed stopped Corley. So that tells us nothing. I also dont think Amir beats Berto, and even this hapless Ortiz, who Mayweather is going to humiliate, could easily put Khan in trouble if he lands.

Khan will struggle at Welter, unless he fights bums, because when he throws combinations, his hands are too low and he stands too square on. A decent punching 147 pounder will nail him.

Morales was there for the taking several times throughout the fight, Maidana just failed to capitalise on the punches he threw. Khan knows how to survive these days, so he's not the same fighter he was vs Prescott.

Against Maidana, Khan used all the ring to stay away from his punches. He could stand square against McCloskey and Judah because they posed no threat. And Maidana's a garbage fighter!

Perhaps you should explain that to Gav, who appears to believe that Khan, having taken his punches, has proven his chin is no longer problematic.

I know Maidana is garbage. The fact that he couldn't stop a shell of what was once Erik Morales is proof enough.

Maidana, however crude, is a big enough puncher at welter, especially against a guy who was getting shaken up by super-featherweights like Willie Limond. Maidana has power but no apparent instincts for finishing, but if Khan's chin were as terrible as all that, he'd have crumbled like a crumbly thing. He didn't, he survived and won the fight.

Khan will always have a risk factor with his chin because it's not brilliant, but neither is it going to stop him beating all the light welters and most of the welters, in my opinion.

I meant light welter - Ortiz's recent move upwards has thrown me. But regardless, Maidana's a big hitter at the weight and Khan survived. I can't think of any big-hitting welters he's likely to bump into - Berto's the only one I can think of and he was fighting crap opposition before Ortiz.

Khan took a huge right hook off Judah in the first round, too. I don't think it's as much of a problem as it used to be. I am now convinced that confining him to lightweight was a major part of the problem.

Roach shifted a lot of weight from his legs to his upper body and there was also a reason why he made him move to LWW. And he is talking about going up to WW. People would have laughed had this been said three years ago.

Maidana is "crude" not "crap", he's certainly able to mix it with any of the top 10 at the weight, just due to being crude he can be out boxed, Khan did it, Corley did it at times, Cayo did it, Ortiz did it and Morales did it. Lets not forget Morales has only ever been stopped by 1 man, and no one would really compare Maidana to Pacquiao.
