Manny Pacquiao: I'm fighting Mayweather in May 2012

MANILA, Philippines — Unless Victor Ortiz and Juan Manuel Marquez don’t follow the script that will be laid out in September and November, the mouth-watering match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen in May 2012.

 

Pacquiao graced the birthday of TV boxing analyst Moy Lainez on Wednesday night and told Lainez that all signs point to a super fight between him and Mayweather next year.

 

“He told me that the Mayweather fight will take place in May next year,” Lainez said.

 

Lainez, thrilled with the news, told Pacquiao that even if he is not feeling well that he will fly to the US just to watch the action at ringside.

 

“I told Manny na kahit ako’y may sakit sa time na iyon ay pupunta ako sa laban,” said Lainez, who used to be a key member of the original Team Pacquiao, a band of boxing brothers whose association with the fight game stretches back to the 1960s.

 

Pacquiao’s words seem to hold water because, apparently, the major issues of drug-testing and revenue split, have been ironed out.

 

Speaking to Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, fight scribe Michael Marley said the Top Rank chief said the touchy issue of Olympic-style testing and the purse split have been agreed upon by the two sides.

 

According to Arum, everything would be equally shared by Pacquiao and Mayweather.

 

If ever this fight materializes, just about every record in boxing would be shattered.

 

Ringsiders believe the 2.4 million pay-per-view buys will easily be broken by a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout.

Well,i believe it when i see both fighters share the same ring with every fighter wearing a pair of gloves. It has been said more than enough over the past 2 or 3 years,from both camps blaming the opposite for this and that and so on and on. Get the negotiation details right so that both camps accept it and make the fight happen we all waiting for. Unless theres an official announcement, an approval from both camps or a official press conference i consider everything that gets thrown in there as pure speculation,hype or whatsoever.... !!!!GET IT DONE AND MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!

I'll go a step further and wait until the first punch is thrown after the bell with both men wearing gloves in the ring. The build-up to this (or should I say build-up, fall over, rebuild, demolish) has been so long-winded I have utterly lost patience.

 

I'm not arsed what Floyd said or what Arum did or what Manny agreed and what Schaefer implied. Either fight or fuck off.

It's frustrating as hell thats for sure, it would be the richest fight in history and both will lose a lot of respect after their careers were done if the fight is not made.

With all due respect to author Nick Goingco or the TV announcer Moy Lainez, anyone who hears a rumor about the fight at this point and believes it on face value has to be the most hopelessly optimistic person on the planet....or the most gullible, I can't decide which.

isn't the answer obvious? both! it would take an extremely gullible and optimistic person to think the fight will happen in 2012

Im sure in 2010 they thought it would happen this year.

 

I echo the sentiments that when both fighters are opposite each other in the ring, then I believe it will happen.
