Dmitri Bivol vs Jean Pascal

--- Bivol at 174.4 and Pascal at 174.6

The Russian defends his title in Atlantic City where a bunch of Russian wise guys can flood the place to counter the French. Surprised Pascal still fights, but I guess he'd like that easy money fight against Stephenson.

Re: Dmitri Bivol vs Jean Pascal

A friend of mine went to the weigh in yesterday. He overheard Kathy Duva saying the ticket sales are very disappointing. Mostly due to all the build up of a fight for Kovalev vs Bivol that got derailed in August. Umm maybe scheduling a fight on Thanksgiving day weekend. Also the undercard is stacked with Russians and Uzbekistan fighters and Karl Dargan.

Re: Dmitri Bivol vs Jean Pascal

119-109 on my card but actually it should have been 119-108, there was a clear knockdown in the 3rd I think it was that wasn't called but in the grand scheme of things it made no difference. I expected it to be more competitive than it was in the end but I guess at 36 Pascal doesn't have much left in the tank. The Pascal that fought Froch gives Bivol a tough night but look how long ago that was I guess.

I wonder if Yarde would take a fight against Pascal next, I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Re: Dmitri Bivol vs Jean Pascal

I'm actually not completely sold on Bivol. Liking him less now than a few years ago.

Sure, he has great balance, patience, fundamentals for days... and finally he's starting to go to the body a little. - But his offense is meat & potatoes basic. He jus comes right at you, with the standard 1-2. No angles, no real head movement, no attacks from the side. I think he's one of the best in the division right now, but not really what I'd call an elite fighter. Not guaranteed to take the belts.

Also, when against a dangerous fighter like Pascal, Bivol can be downright boring. He lacks the killer instinct. Pascal had one shining moment, late in the fight, where he might JUST have landed a hail Mary KO punch. Had Bivol been more aggressive earlier in the fight, (like after the KD) that dangerous oment would never have even happened. Imagine if that had been Beterbiev facing Bivol?

So..... I dunno.

Disappointing turn out in AC last night. They were giving tickets away in the casino. Venue wasn't even 50% full for the majority of the undercard. Heard a few rumors that Bivol will most likely latch on with DAZN.

Not a surprise. The card didn't look that particulary interesting. The main event looked as expected. Bivol still don't that have that big name and he needs a big fight badly.

Re: Dmitri Bivol vs Jean Pascal

I was pretty underwhelmed, and have had high hopes for Bivol.

Finding myself agreeing with Cable here, but where I HAD previously seen a killer instinct in him, it kind of went missing this weekend. He seemed very cagey and uneager to throw shots, even when Pascal had his hands down.

It probably irked me more the fact I had a double bet for Hunter to win in rounds 6-12 and Bivol inside 4, so it was annoying he didn't throw much leather in those rounds and when he did land nicely it wasn't followed up

Anyway I did think prior to this bout he might be about the best in the division, but against a rugged or awkward opponent he might struggle. Especially if they throw back with any kind of power.

--- Who ever looked good against the stinker style of Pascal?

He never even looked good when he won! End of the day Bivol ain't in there to fight in a dozen styles to please a few hundred persnickety fans who have proven impossible to please. He won and moves up the good chain for another day for persnicks to moan about.
