--- MSG this Sat for IBF Middle title.

On paper this looks all Jacobs, but Derev fought 4 years in The World Series of Boxing and was undefeated, and frankly Jacobs aging and really Tight at this weight, in the cruiser range come fight night.

"On paper this looks all Jacobs."

On toilet paper? :noidea: I just don't see it, London, even though Jacobs obviously has the better resume.

----------------------------------

I think it will go pretty much like Jacobs - Golovkin. Quite possibly even a KO.

I think Sergiy is easily as good as Golovkin was in his absolute prime. - Only with a much higher output, and better defense. Not quite as much 1-punch power, but his output makes up for that, hence his KO percentage. Jacobs is slippery as heck, but Golovkin had no problem getting to him.

I don't think Jacobs can avoid serious damage for more than 5-6 rounds. Then, even if he survives, he'll shell up & lose rounds.

Excited for this, and for the Heather Hardy vs Shelly Vincent rematch. Rooting heavy for Shelly because she didn't get any credit by one of the judges on the scorecards in the first fight, and was super nice when i met her last month.

Re: Daniel Jacobs vs Sergiy Derev...

He lost one - actually - to Brian Castano:

He also sparred tons of rounds with Jacobs, apparently:

This is a good fight. I think their sparring experience and technique will make it hard for one to hurt the other.

Range difference is big - with Jacobs probably just a bit quicker also - so I give him an edge, but Derevyanchenko should be there with him for all 12 rounds. Might come down to Jacobs being the "home"fighter in close call.

--- Almost always comes down to the home or money fighter in most fights sadly.

Yeah, I missed his sole loss buried in the fine print of my 4.0 iPhone. I'll check out the vids you graciously provided, but end of the day, if Jacobs can make weight without looking distressed, hard to pick against him.

Brian Castano is one serious contender. :boxing:

Indeed! I had no idea about this guy, but he looks terrific. Not the most refined boxer, but aggressive, good defense, excellent reflexes, and with a nice variety to his offense.

He must have lousy management, because he's been fighting b-level opponents, his whole career, and in out of the way places. This guy should be on everybody's radar.

Re: Daniel Jacobs vs Sergiy Derev...

He probably could make Welterweight too! I wish He would - with his flyweight-like reach he's going to be in big disadvantage against some guys at 154.

True.

- But at the same time, he's 6'1" so he has an advantage against most as far as keeping his head back & safe. He seems to be a very good counterpuncher, so maybe that's the blueprint: Head back, work mostly of the back foot, wait for your opponent to reach, then counter. - As long as he can protect his body.

- And FWIW, Derevychenko only has a 67.5" reach. Only 1/2" more than Castano.

Yes, great reflexes, good power, good accuracy, defense, chin. And stamina. Did you see his last fight vs Cedric Vitu? He killed Vitu in the last round, threw punches like crazy! :boxing:

Maybe but he's kind of big for a welterweight...wouldn't last that long there. He's got other things to make up for the lack of reach.

Re: Daniel Jacobs vs Sergiy Derev...

I thought it was closer than the Sky commentary team were making it out to be. But when Jacobs found a rhythm and his timing, his shots were the more effective and classier looking.

Sergiy did well to recover from the disaster start though, and it became an interesting fight, he worked his way back into it in the next few rounds. But Jacobs' class started to show as the fight went on for me.

Re: Daniel Jacobs vs Sergiy Derev...

--- Jacobs wins a close split decision.

amazingly the consensus seems to be it was very close and well fought perhaps lacking the drama to arouse any contranarians to sound off.

My overall impression was that Derevychenko simply didn't do enough. - not NEARLY enough.

With a 6" reach disadvantage, he should have been pressing forward and throwing bombs up close, from the opening bell.

Instead, he fought at midrange for 8 rounds, right where Jacobs could tee off on him.

I think perhaps he was so sure that he'd win by KO, and maybe so afraid of gassing in the late rounds, that he simply gave the fight away.

- Not to take anything away from Jacobs, who fought a perfect fight and maybe looked the best he ever has in his career.

Re: Daniel Jacobs vs Sergiy Derev...

Another great night at the fights. Strange punch that scored the knock down. Looked like Jacobs was chopping down with that right hand. I lost count of my score halfway thru the fight. Kind of felt it was either a 3 point with for Jacobs or a narrow 1 point win for Sergey.

I hated the decision in the Hardy vs Vincent rematch. Looked to me like Vincent was knocking Heather around the ring late in that fight.

Machado was impressive. Evans got blitzed. Didn't think he recover enough after the 2nd knockdown to continue, not long after it was over with a devastating KO. Gonna nominate that as KO of the Year.

Evans has a shitty nickname. Money Shot? seriously?

Was able to meet and talk to Andrade, Brandon Rios, Robert Garcia, Rosado, John David Jackson, Big Baby Miller, and Cooney,

Small tid bits i found out. So i talked shit to Miller for allowing them to move the fight to Kanasa. He said he didn't control those decision, and would've loved to fight in AC instead. Rios said the same, and blamed Robert Garcia lol. Rios was the nicest fighter, very talkative, and joking around. Seems the fight was moved because of Nico Hernandez. Andrade said he's taking a little time off, then heading back to the gym. He isn't opposed to fighting BJS, but would only want to do it in the US, unless the money is worth it to travel across the pond. Rosado ended up having that scar tissue surgery to reduce the chance of cuts/lacerations.
