LondonRingRules
--- Boxrec shows he passed Friday, but there is precious media support for his passing, perhaps a bit like Enzo Calzage false reports a couple of days before he passed? No matter, Karl one of the earlier southpaws challenging for the heavy title had Ali in enough trouble to have Cosell choking on HOS toupee! http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/9381
WelshDevilRob
Re: Karl Mildenberger RIP? Rest in Peace, Karl Mildenberger. Passed away on Friday at the age of 80. Boxrec lists him as the first southpaw to fight for the World Heavyweight title. He was stopped by defending champion, Muhammad Ali in the twelfth round. The contest, in 1966, took place in Frankfurt, Germany. Karl, from Kaiserslautern, Germany, turned professional in 1958 and had his first European title shot in 1962. He was stopped, in a round, by Welshman Dick Richardson. Two years later he would win the vacant belt, stopping Italian Santo Amonti in the first. He successfully defended the belt a total of six times before losing it to Henry Cooper, in his last fight (1968). He holds wins over Pete Rademacher, Wayne Bethea, Joe Bygraves, Joe Erskine, Eddie Machen and Billy Walker and a draw with Zora Folley. He took part in the WBA elimination tourney, in 1967, losing to Argentina's Oscar Bonavena. His career record is 53-6-3, 19 KOs.
