Former world champion Graciano 'Rocky' Rocchigiani has passed away aged 54 after a fatal car accident.

The German boxer, who shared the ring with Chris Eubank and held world titles at super-middleweight and light heavyweight, is reported by Bild as passing away in Italy.

'Rocky' was said to be a passenger in the car. He leaves behind a girlfriend and two children.

His Italian girlfriend meant he travelled regularly between Berlin and Italy.

An IBF world title holder at super-middleweight from 1988-89, Rocchigiani went on to solidify an outstanding career by moving up in weight and claiming honours.

As well as losing to Eubank Sr for the WBO super-middleweight title in 1994, he took on Dariusz Michalczewski in 2000 for the WBO and lineal light heavyweight titles.

He ended his career with 41 victories, six losses and a draw.

--- Terrible tragedy. Wasn't Rocky the recipient of a large settlement with the WBC?

regardless, he was in the mix for a long time, and his kids deserve our prayers. It's never easy losing a parent prematurely much less to such a tragedy...R.I.P.

Yes he was. Read about it in my article on Rocchigiani brothers.

Rocky pretty much KO'd the WBC. In 1998, Roy Jones Jr. relinquished his WBC light heavyweight title. The WBC set up the bout between Rocky and Michael Nunn. After Rocky won, Roy Jones changed his mind and asked the WBC to reinstate him as champion – and they did! They stripped Rocky of the title, and he subsequently sued the WBC. In May 2003, he won the lawsuit and the judge awarded him $31 million. The following day, the WBC sought protection by filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Over the following 13 months, the WBC tried to negotiate a six-figure settlement with Rocky, and he ultimately reached an agreement in July 2004.

Reading conflicting reports over cause now. Orig reports said car crash. Then later reports said he was a passenger. Latest reports claiming he was mown down by a car as a pedestrian. Either way hes been taken too early. May you RIP our boxing brother.
