Who will have better HW career - Usyk or Gassiev?

Interesting eh?

Let's say they both bulk up to a comfortable 220 - 225 lbs.

Usyk, for all his brilliance, does not have good power for HW. Plus, he's already 31 years old, with a style that requires an insane amount of energy output. His 78" reach is not currently an issue, because he gets in & out so quickly, but as his legs slow, that will be a disadvantage as Usyk clearly prefers to box from outside. (And with his questionable power, he'd be wise to stay outside.)

Gassiev has "real" HW power, he's still very young, and he seems to be improving all the time. (And losing to Usyk might be the best thing that ever happened to him. He only has a 76" reach, but if he develops his inside game, that's not really a problem.

IMO, Gassiev has the better chance of doing something huge.

Layton will now proceed to tell me that IDKSAB, afterwards we can all have an interesting discussion. :haha:

Firstly has either said they are moving up to HW ? I heard usyk postfight calling out Bellend at some sort of catchweight for a purely money driven fiasco but i didnt hear him saying "thanks for the 4 belts and the Ali trophy now im off up to HW. Keep them".

Gassiev clearly has a lot to learn and looks much older than his 24yrs. Although i tipped him for a late ko win. I never envisaged the workrate we witnessed from usyk.

Usyk & Team Klitschko have said many times over the last few years that the plan was to clean out CW, then move up, so one can assume the time is now.

There's really no more money to be made at 200, for the next year at least. Who's ledt to fght? Makabu? Masternak? Dorodola? Not exactly household names or PPV draws.

The only opponent that might make sense is Tabiti, since that would draw an American audience. (And be a decent fight, as well.)

But after that? Nuthin ......

===============================

As for Gassiev, I have no idea, but he has the same problem re money-making opponents, and in the most overlooked division in boxing. He obviously has the power to compete well at HW, so why wouldn't he at least give it a try? - Also, most heavies are slower, which for Gassiev is a good thing.

He does look much older, doesn't he? Well, beneath the top-ten, the HW division is a whole lot safer than the CW division right now. Might as well learn there, and build up some credibility at the weight at the same time.

I predicted exactly what we got, but about halfway through the actual fight, I was thinking the same as you, because I couldn't imagine Usyk maintaining that insane output & movement for 12 rounds. Amazing.

- But that's my point about Usyk. How many more years can he do that? All the training in the world can't defeat Mother Nature.
