19th Century Boxing Chicanary

Recommended Posts

--- This features an American TV series called Have Gun, Will Travel featuring the all time ever business card to have:

The show takes place in the lawless decades after the civil war in the territories. Paladin is an educated, erudite, gentleman gunslinger for hire based in San Fran. Basically most of the directors and script writers back then had fathers that grew up in that era and were big on boxing, so they were steeped in boxing. Richard Boone became set for life with this series and promptly moved to Hawaii. In college he was the intercollegiate LH champ, so he had some good boxing chops although this vid uses more stylized Hollywood techniques that leave me cold to their fight sequences, but the setting, guns, and promotional chicanery were very typical of American boxing back then.
