pittbox
South African Hekkie Budler defeated Japanese Ryoichi Taguchi in Ota and is now the unified WBA and IBF light flyweight champion. "The Hexecutioner" lost his previous two title fights, against Byron Rojas and Milan Melindo and wasn't a favorite against Taguchi who unified the titles against previously mentioned Melindo. Budler had a lot of success with his activity in the first four rounds. Taguchi came back in rounds 5-9 with effective counter punching, but Budler turned the tide in rounds 10 and 11 when he landed some tremendous shots. Taguchi took the 12th round big with Budler being in danger. All three judges scored it 114-113 for the underdog. I scored the fight 114-114. Bulder had an amazing night, but I think that it was close enough that Taguchi deserves the rematch.
LondonRingRules
Re: Upset of the year so far? --- damn near impossible for anyone to go in the champs backyard to win a close decision, but the Japanese are legendary as some of the fairest and most respected fans, officials, and media. Long may they continue. Joe Kozumi is a living legend there involved in media and promotions. You go Joe!

Aint it the truth? Upset of the year so far, for me, it Badou Jack's obvious defeat of Stevenson. Of course, in fairness, I don't know ANY of the fighters @pittbox just mentioned. ;-) ------------------ Honorable mentions: Ronnie Clarke's MD over Zelfa Barrett. (and a GREAT fight, BTW.) Isaac Dogboe's KO of Jessie Magdeleno Edited May 22, 2018 by Cableaddict
Cableaddict
Re: Upset of the year so far? Does Uzcategui beating Andre Direll count? I don't remember who was the odds favorite. Same for Munguia KTFO-ing Sadam Ali. Ali was the favorite, yes? Edited May 22, 2018 by Cableaddict
