Erkan Teper vs Christian Hammer, Oct 15th.

A possibly interesting HW fight coming up.

Hammer is certainly not an elite fighter, but he's also no bum, and is a decent litmus test for guys on the way up.

---------------------------

I really don't know much about Teper, but he is of course the guy that recently KO'd David Price.

OK, that's not necessarily much to brag about, but the guy is 16 (10) - 0 so he can't completely suck. He's also 6'5" but likes to fight on the inside, so that's fun if nothing else. Sadly, he appears to be following the patented "Andy Ruiz" method of training. He's gone up in weight in each of his last 3 fights, hitting a career-high of 257.5 in his last fight, vs his career-low of 224 lbs in 2010. From the looks of him, it's not muscle that he's been adding to his frame.

Still, he has VERY good power and pretty fast hands. Also a lovely right cross to the temple, kind of like a right hook off the wrong foot. That's hard to defend against.

He doesn't have much defense that I can see, other than the "please don't hit me in the face" ear muffs thing, but then again I haven't seen much of him to accurately judge.

Does anyone know much about this guy? Is he a potential new star, (if he loses about 20 lbs) or just a lucky journeyman?

Pretty sweet combo from the fat man:

Teper apparently had quite a few more sandwiches before his next fight: ( Still, they apparently packed the arena! )

Watching the Rossy fight, two things seem apparent, one good & one bad:

Good: Teper seems to be very good at controlling the ring. Rossy isn't very good offensively, but he has quite decent defensive movement, yet Teper was able to keep him in his center for the entire fight, and with minimal expenditure of energy. Not unlike Kovalev.

Bad: weighing his career highest, Teper was obviously afraid to open up much. He barely even threw any two-punch combos, let alone any flurries. He finally opened up on Rossy in the final 15 seconds or so, and had Rossy in huge trouble, but it was too late.

Someone should get this man some nice vegetable salad and a top trainer. You never know ...

Teper is a big favorite for me. I still remember Hammer's fight against Johnson, when he looked awful against terrible "Kingpin". Teper is a top 10 HW for me.

How was his defense, when he was younger & slimmer?

Doesnt look like this is going to be televised. Cant see anything positive in any of the schedules regarding this.

Wow.

It's like with Bogdan Dinu. Another guy who's probably a current top-ten HW, based on talent alone, and he has yet (AFAIK) to be on a single televised main card on any major western network.

Maybe an outside chance of Kanalturk televising the Teper fight.

We have a Bogdan Career thread here

It will be broadcasted on NTV Spor. Very easy to find this channel in the internet.

Re: Erkan Teper vs Christian Hammer, Oct 15th.

Teper in terrible shape, but I don't think Hammer actually did enough to get 116-112 and 117-111 scores ...

He sure was, but I agree with your latter opinion as well. A really bad decision, IMO.

- but if Tepper can't bother to get into shape, then I don't care that he got jobbed. Time to move on....

Perhaps he needed the boost from his steroids and now he feels the lack?
