James "Chunky" DeGale has agreed to a Las Vegas showdown with Badou Jack and says negotiations for the world title unification fight are "nearly there".The IBF super-middleweight champion stoked up his rivalry with WBC title holder Jack by trading words on social media and the Londoner has revealed he is happy for the fight to be staged in the American's hometown. DeGale has been absent from the ring since defending his belt with a points win over Rogelio Medina in March, but expects a meeting with Jack to be confirmed for a date in either October or November.

"It's nearly there," DeGale exclusively told Sky Sports. "It feels like I haven't really been around, but don't worry, I'm working quietly, I'm still training hard."Everything hasn't been confirmed fully yet, but it's nearly there. I was just having a bit of banter with Badou Jack, saying make sure my belt is shiny and ready for when I beat you.

Looking forward to this?

Good fight this....champions not avoiding one another should be applauded. I like Degale going about his business since his early setback when he lost to Groves.

Early odds have Degale as 4/11 favourite, with Badou Jack around 2/1.

--- Hmmm, let's put 2 feather fisted furriers in Vegas for a huuuuge fight...what could go wrong?

...Thanks Al.

DeGale is far from feather-fisted.

Jack? well ok. But he makes up for it will very respectable skills.

I like both of these guys. Really looking forward to this fight.

Re: DeGale agrees world title unification fight with Badou Jack in Vegas

Just now are people finally starting to realize Badou is a legit champion and a serious player. Everybody wrote him off after that one knockout loss and since he is not American, the media were rather unkind to him for a while after that, I imagine. But then he goes and beats Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell, who was supposed to be the next great thing. Who got "exposed" now?

Anthony Dirrell was supposed to be the next great thing?? Jesus, I saw him against Hanshaw and he was alright, then against Bika he was bloody awful - nobody looks good against Bika but you're not supposed to go life-and-death with the guy. Dirrell was nothing special, Jack didn't deserve a title shot and has still done nothing terribly impressive. DeGale will take his title away fairly easily.

I think DeGale is much better than Badou Jack. I do not think boxing has enough to beat the English.

I definitely agree. - But Jack has surprised us before.

At least Jack fights in an entertaining way, unlike many light-fisted guys. He's more of an in-your-face type than a runner, using perfect footwork to attack from mid-range. Reminds me somewhat of a prime Paulie. (Whom I have massive respect for.)

That loss to Edwards is troubling, but to be fair that was a lovely & perfectly-timed counter. Jack has looked awfully good since then. Sometimes fighters actually learn from their mistakes.....

Really? Think so? We'll see. :ranger: DeGale hasn't yet beaten anyone that good either. Just good, not beaten anyone really good yet.

True enough, though DeGale has a win over the Dirrell I would consider more impressive - professional fantasist Andre. And Bute of course, but Bute failed the test for the Jack fight, so that should be NC.

It happens to everyone and just to write someone off as overrated because of such a loss is idiotic. When Emile Griffith got annihilated in one round by Rubin Carter, did people say he had been "exposed"? Of course not.

Wasn't Griffith alreadty a successful and storied champion by time he lost to Carter? Whereas Jack is...not.

That means nothing. I am trying to say that one ko loss means nothing. And everyone can get caught-a points loss or a onesided beating is much more of a proof that one is overrated than a one punch ko loss.

Well not necessarily - there's a big difference between a real, proven champion getting clocked by a single shot and an unproven belt-holder type of champion getting clocked. I don't personally think Jack has shown any great ability, so while I wouldn't say he'd been exposed, it's a far more significant black mark.

Lennox Lewis getting flattened by Hasim Rahman wasn't exposed; David Price getting flattened by Tony Thompson was.

Not by Rahman but by McCall, yes. It was a sign he yet wasn't a complete fighter. Against Rahman it was more due to not training enough and maybe also taking his opponent lightly.

Even against McCall it wasn't so telling. McCall threw a beauty of a counter. Lightning fast, and IIRC under Lewis' left hand.

Lewis didn't exactly leave himself open, the way Price did against Thompson.

But still, Lewis wasn't yet the fighter he became under Steward. It was also obvious in the Bruno fight, where he looked clumsy and only won thanks to Bruno's recklessness.
