Jim Watt retires and about time!

Re: Jim Watt retires and about time!

--- Major, major apologies to Jim Watt as well as belated condolences. I had no idea there was even a Jr.

That's the kind of pain that stays with a parent for the rest of their lives. Gives me more appreciation aside from boxing thinking about all he's gone through. I guess us fans can be an inconsiderate lot sometimes even when we just joke around.

Re: Jim Watt retires and about time!

It'll seem strange watching a fight without his voice commenting.

His service to boxing in unquestionable and he deserves thanks from the supporters for his effort of the years. But, I am glad he has stepped down. I hope he finds something else that will keep him busy, maybe he will have s role in some capacity in Scottish boxing that takes less hours so he can enjoy retirement.

I just hope they replace him with someone decent.

Malignaggi would be my vote. Love his insight.

Re: Jim Watt retires and about time!

Terrible, boring commentator with a one toned, irritating voice. Achieved fuck all as a boxer and even less as a commentator/pundit. His knowledge of fighters was very limited and his scorecard predictions were way off the mark, regularly.

Nothing against the bloke as a man, personally, but if ever a bloke was in the wrong job it was him. Good riddance. Total lack of professionalism and only got the gig thru who he knew not WATT he knew.

Re: Jim Watt retires and about time!

Seems a decent Scotsman but his commentary makes him sound senile at times.

Often I have to wonder if he's even watching the same fight.

Not a fan of his commentary. But there is no need to celebrate in his retirement. He will be missed by many and not missed by many.

Re: Jim Watt retires and about time!

He's done well for 40 years - was decent in the early days. Maybe it was Sky pressure but too biased in recent years. Got the impression that he didn't really study up on foreign fighters which is a huge negative.

He's done his job and can't be easy commentating live but retirement is the right move. Hopefully Nick Halling goes as well cos he knows fuck all.

Fought an absolute stream of unknowns and mandatories. Took the title off an over the hill Mexican who went on to lose lost 6/7 last fights. Well done Jim :thumb: HOF awaits you.........NOT

Hes an official Scottish HOF'er! I'll give him that much.

You'll be telling me next Wlad's a pukka HW World champion in the same league as Ali.

At least get somewhere in the same postcode as coherent - that isn't so much a strawman as a corndolly.

Won five world title fights at a time when there was only 2 belts and successfully against Howard Davis Jr and Sean O'Grady. He's no all time great but that's not a bad legacy and he was much better than Nicky Cook.

I like Jim but definetly time to go. His scorecards were becoming very puzzling nto say the least. Hsppy retirement to him. Unfortunately we are left with Nick Halling, knows his American football but a terrible boxing commentator

Spot on Rob....Watt was fine back in the day alongside legends like Reg Gutteridge and Ian Darke.

He has had a great run and should of gone a few years ago and being alongside Halling hasn't helped.....rumour going round that Halling has been given the spanish archer (elbow) by sky we will soon find out Saturday!
