Juergen Braehmer vs Nathan Cleverly set for Germany

Juergen Braehmer (48-2, 35 KOs) will defend his WBA World Light Heavyweight title against Nathan Cleverly (29-3, 15 KOs) on October 1 at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany, live on Sky Sports.

The fight has been a long time coming with the pair originally slated to meet in 2011 at the O2 in London before an eye injury forced Braehmer to withdraw. Four years later, the fighters were again close to sharing a ring but talks broke down with Cleverly opting to fight in America instead.

Braehmer, who returns following a one-sided points victory over domestic foe Eduard Gutknecht, will now be aiming for a seventh successive defence of his WBA World title against Welsh rival Cleverly, the former WBO World Champion, who announced his return to the light heavyweight division with a 2015 ‘Fight of the Year’ contender versus Andrzej Fonfara.

“In boxing you can never say never,” said the defending champion. “This is a fight the fans have wanted to see for a long time and I’m happy it’s finally happening. I look forward to meeting Nathan Cleverly in the ring at the Jahnsportforum and proving once and for all who is the better boxer.

This is a good match-up and they were meant to fight many years ago but Breahmer pulled out and Nathan took the vacant WBO light heavyweight title. They will fight in Germany, who do you think will win?

Re: Cleverly vs Breahmer - Who wins?

5 years to late but a good fight, I suppose.

Braehmer wins this for me and he is more awkward and probably has more left at this point. Cleverly shouldn't of left his dad, I see no improvement that we all expected.

Time to say he was wrong to move on and get back with his old man.

Re: Cleverly vs Breahmer - Who wins?

Cleverly has 1 problem. He thinks he's a puncher. He's not. He's foolish to take this fight. End of Cleverly. Shame he could have been a great

You reckon!??

I remember back around 2008ish or so when he was a hungry young fighter, studying at university and was a regular on sky sports. They loved this educated lad with an apptitude for boxing.

I first saw him when he was around 12-0 (guess work here) and he'd stopped maybe 5 if that, but had worked himself up to around the UK title shot. He started taking on some of the tougher veterans and better names and went on a spree of KO victory's and the giddiness erupted.

His power is coming, he's not just a skinny youngster anymore....he will soon finish his studies and he can concentrate on boxing full time...he will be great!

Was a bit of a weird one really as he just seemed to slow down after the first close Bellew fight. Maybe he started getting tagged more and struggled a bit in fights and just didn't fancy it as much when he wasn't getting his own way.

Seems to have ground to a halt in the last few years and been on the end of a few losses.

Re: Cleverly vs Breahmer - Who wins?

That's what I mean, he was awesome boxer, but the fights he struggled and/or lost he was throwing bombs, if he stuck to his boxing he'd beat anyone. Ego is your biggest enemy sometimes in my opinion.

That's a good point.

Re: Cleverly vs Breahmer - Who wins?

For years Braehmer avoided Cleverly like the plague. The fact that the German's team has now taken the fight tells me that they are now confident Clev has gone back enough for Braehmer to beat him. I would have been so hot on Nathan just a couple of years ago but now swing towards Braehmer. The German has been protected but is very effective at what he does. Braehmer close on points.

Nathan Cleverly ready to become a two-time World Champion

Nathan Cleverly (29-3, 15 KOs) believes it is his ‘destiny’ to beat Juergen Braehmer (48-2, 35 KOs) and be crowned WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany.

Cleverly was scheduled to meet Braehmer for the WBO title in 2011, but with only days to go before the Welshman’s first World title challenge, Braehmer withdrew, leaving Cleverly to fight Aleksy Kuziemski for the vacant belt.

‘’I was in the car on my way to London when I got the call saying Braehmer hadn’t arrived and the fight was off,’’ recalls Cleverly. ‘’It was a crazy situation, and the scramble was on to find a replacement opponent in just two days.’’

Re: Cleverly vs Breahmer - Who wins?

Lackluster fight, I don't know how Clev could celebrate at the end - he didn't win the fight, it was handed to him when Breahmer retired with an injury.

I hope there is a rematch to settle the fight, but, it's not one I want to watch again it was boring....

Just caught the last two rounds but my stream kept breaking up....have they mentioned what the injury was? Seemed a weird one.

So Clev no believes in some hype he's a world champion? Hearing his interview now.....Thick twats aren't they, boxers!
