The_budweiser
Manny Pacquiao plans to come out of retirement to fight in the autumn, claims the Filipino boxer's promoter. Bob Arum said the former welterweight king will headline in Las Vegas on either October 29 or November 5 as long as it does not clash with his senate duties in the Philippines. "Manny wants to come back," Arum told ESPN. "The problem is he can only come back if it doesn't interfere with his senate duties." Arum, who has promoted Pacquiao since 2005, said the most difficult part of setting up a fight is working around the boxer's busy political schedule. "He now has given us the go-ahead to shop for a venue and an opponent and see if we can do it on a particular date or dates," Arum added "We've been trying to work out a date that doesn't interfere with his senatorial responsibilities and his ability to train." Pacquiao, a veteran of 66 fights and winner of world or Ring magazine titles in a record eight weight divisions, denied there are any firm plans on a return to the ring, but did not rule out making one. "There is no truth to media reports that I'm planning to take a leave from my senate duties just to fight again atop the ring. I want to make it clear - my priority is my legislative works," said Pacquiao in a statement. "My next fight has not yet been discussed. Should there be any, I'll make sure it will not interfere with my senate duties." Source: Sky Sports

The_budweiser
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement Another great fighter goes on too long. He needs to pick boxing or politics. I still think he has a lot to offer to boxing but I'm not sure if he can make his mind up. Maybe he needs to replace the money he keeps giving away? LondonRingRules
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement --- Well, he is hedging his bets in advance, after all, he and TUE need a proper tango to pay off all the lawsuits their last farce generated. Looked really sharp aginst Bradley last go round, so it's not like he's shot given the boost he got from surgical repair of his shoulder. As far as time needed for senate duties, if he just curbed all that bb coaching, movies and music he could go another year or so and still make the senate between recesses. A rematch wouldn't surprise me a bit. It could be sponsored by Geritol, or Depens. Heck, they'll just do another slow dance for the casuals, and put tens of millions more in their pockets. Gerald
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement Anyone feel like it's Arum who wants this rather than Pacquiao? To me it smacks of him wanting to wring every last dollar out of his cash-cow. It wouldn't surprise me to see Arum set up a fight that bolsters the profile of another of his charges in a 'feed him to the wolves' type fight. Most fighters miss the limelight and foolishly come back, but Pac has an entirely new & exciting life in the limelight of politics.
LondonRingRules
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement --- Politics in so called democracies is as tediously dirty and murderously bloody biz as there is. Manny has a rather bland personality though one supposes he could develop into a raging fire breathing tyrant under the right circumstances. The smartest pols have trusted aides take care of the mind numbing details because so much of their time is spent in committees and sessions choked in the hot gaseous spews of political grand standing. Thhat said, any notion that Manny is a sacrificial lamb in the ring now cannot be supported by his still stellar performance vs Bradley.

No, not at the moment, but it suggests he can't settle in retirement, which is always worrying.
Zute
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement It appears Broner and Garcia do not want the big payday which comes with a Pacquiao fight. Odd. I know it is in the works for them to fight each other, but I cannot see how they would be getting the same loot. I would love to see Thurman get that payday. Maybe he will fight Bradley again. ike
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement For me this is a sad news, Manny is not a finished fighter, is not any more in his prime but he proved against Bradley in April to still be competitive. But let's talk about a legendary fighter of almost 38 years, something else has to add to his magnificent career? for me nothing. He risking to be only a great name in the records of some young lion :nono:
Javier Ortega Nieto
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement I think it should definitely retire as a senator of his country and the responsibilities that it entails and how old it is better to step aside. If you do not have your 100% in boxing it is better to leave.
LondonRingRules
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement --- Broner vs Garcia's loony papa would be classic. Figure papa to do a number on him in prefight and Garcia to do it in the ring, easy money. Manny handles both even easier.

Zute
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement Was he ever retired officially? Pac vs Crawford is a big seller but I see him getting beat up. I also think many people think he will fight Floyd again. Let's see. My guess is he fights a much safer opponent.

Yep. looks like it's going to be Vargas, which is just ridiculous: Manny Pacquiao to fight Jessie Vargas next! – Breaking News - Boxing News I really like Vargas, esp after that surprise win over Sadam Ali, but he has zero chance against Manny, not even over-the-hill Manny. He's become much better under RJJ's tutelage, but he's got no pop. He has nothing that's going to bother Manny in any way. A horrible matchup, and Freddy should be ashamed of himself. The only upside is that Freddy will likely once again start spouting off about ow his fighter has been working on cutting off the ring, and once against one of his fighters will fail to be able to do it. The one thing Vargas does incredibly well is MOVE. Freddy cracks me up sometimes. Edited August 5, 2016 by Cableaddict
Ton
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement Well I for one, am shocked!! Not often you see a boxer announce retirement and then sign to fight months later! As has been alluded to, it must be the fact that he misses the limelight or the regular boxing lifestyle....he is rich beyond his dreams so it's not financially motivated...... Strange behaviour....given just £1mill I think I'd retire if I'm honest!

LondonRingRules
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement --- Retirement talk for voters and his wife only. As pointed out, he spends like a King thus needing periodic Kings ransoms. Uncle Bob reportedly lost at least $10 mil in his last fight has the streaking Vargas and Crawford handy drooling over a career purse, so there it is. Let the hurt biz begin. WelshDevilRob
Re: Pacquiao to come out of retirement “I’ve talked with Jessie, I know what it will require Jessie to fight, but everything is up to Manny, and I haven’t talked to Manny and I won’t until I get to the Philippines,” Bob Arum said in a report by BoxingScene. “Boxing is in his blood. When he trains, it’s like a pressure-release valve,” Koncz said in a report by the Los Angeles Times. “You can see a dramatic difference in his mood … he’s happy. It’s amazing what training and fighting does for him.”

At least this isn't a case of him going into an unwinnable fight though, he still has something to offer and isn't past it too much just yet, I guess.
