repsac
Whoa, Hearn just announced this. Thoughts? i don't see Brook making it to the final bell. And I hate this matchup because I think there's a lot better competitive fights for Brook at 147 or 154. But HUGE set of balls on Brook and his team for accepting this fight. And GGG traveling to the UK. Would've preferred GGG and Eubank. Oh well.
LondonRingRules
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! --- If true, got to give Brook some credit like Khan for moving up 2 divisions, but of course before creation of Junior divisions, this was routine for boxing, so some context needed. repsac
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Brook is gonna have a tough time making 160 with that set of brass balls he got accepting a fight like this. Good luck to him.

Cableaddict
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! @#$@%#$@. I mean, WTF? Eubank, Jacobs, Canelo, Billy Joe.. they should all start taking ballerina lessons, 'cause they don't belong in a boxing ring. This fight is completely meaningless, and we all know exactly how it will go.
WelshDevilRob
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook in London on September 10th Matchroom Boxing and K2 Promotions are delighted to announce that Gennady Golovkin will defend his IBF, WBA, WBC and IBO Middleweight World titles against IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook at The O2 in London on September 10, live on Sky Sports Box Office and HBO World Championship Boxing. The two unbeaten stars collide in London with the US-based Kazakh KO king Golovkin stepping into the ring as a defending champion for the 16th time and looking to keep up his incredible knockout percentage – with 32 of his previous 35 fights ending early, including all of his World title outings, and the 34 year old is ready to add to that run in his first fight in the UK. “I’m very excited to be fighting in front of the great British boxing fans and promise another ‘Big Drama Show’ against Kell Brook,” said Golovkin. Gerald
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Wow - I did not see this coming. Still need time to digest this but a bit of me feels like is a desperation move by Brook to somehow outdo Khan's boldness in taking on Canelo. Shocked they have made this at 160 as well! Still need time to digest this but a bit of me feels like is a desperation move by Brook to somehow outdo Khan's boldness in taking on Canelo. Shocked they have made this at 160 as well! It's also a way for Brook to make some big dollars, without having to face Thurman, Lara, etc. When he loses (and he will, of course) he just cashes his big check, goes back to WW with absolutely no hit to his standing in that division, and gets to forever brag that he had the balls to face Golovkin. Either he will dance on the outside all night, or he'll go down & stay down after the first meaningful punch Golovkin lands. And of course Golovkin's rep gains absolutely nothing after this win. He'll just be another six months older.
WelshDevilRob
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Eubank deal fell through because his father wanted to double ticket prizes, chose the commentators and pick the undercard plus what the undercard fighters were paid. Snr is an idiot - Eddie Hearn wouldn't play ball with their silly demands.

gavpowell
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! So the new trend for middleweight champions is to fight welterweights then. Pathetic, ridiculous fight - I agree with everything Cable said. Like Canelo, Golovkin should be ashamed of this fight - even another second-tier middleweight is better than a guy moving up two weight divisions. Brook says he's a huge welterweight, but what he isn't is a particularly good welterweight, not to mention Golovkin is no small middleweight. If there are any more of these pathetic matches made this year by fighters who should have the dignity and self-respect to act differently, I'm giving up on boxing and leaving it to die. pittbox
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! To be honest, I don't understand this whole "respect for Brook" thing. He's a professional boxer and being knocked out is something anyone should be prepared for. Boxers should be respected for risking their reputation, not their health, because they do it in every fight anyway. Brook knows that even if he loses this fight badly, he still would be pampered like a baby "He lasted so much with this big Golovkin". This fight is a joke. Should we organize fights between minimumweight and heavyweight and then talk all the time how brave the small one is? It is something taken from comic book, not the real sport. This fight is a shame for both Brook and Golovkin. If Eubank got cold feet, then they should just cancel this, but Hearn does everything to cash on Golovkin. Javier Ortega Nieto
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Brook do not see how you can beat GGG, I think it's crazy by his team. Eubank deal fell through because his father wanted to double ticket prizes, chose the commentators and pick the undercard plus what the undercard fighters were paid. Snr is an idiot - Eddie Hearn wouldn't play ball with their silly demands. The Eubank's seem like they only wanted to link their name with GGG and get free publicity. Those demands are pathetic and no promoter would agree to them. Credit to Brook for taking the fight but being unable to get the fights he wants and the money that's on offer was probably to hard to turn down. LondonRingRules
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! --- Hearn is claiming 3-5 million British, so for that kind of money I'd be happy to take an all time beating. I doubt Brooksie will fight much but rather hold and spoil to the distance for a favorable BBbc decision, or so he hopes.

Cableaddict
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Been thinking about this fight some more. While I still think it's ridiculous, I no longer blame either fighter for it. The blame lies squarely with Canelito, then Eubank Sr, then Eddie Hearn. Golovkin had every reason to believe he'd be fighting Canelito this summer. Then when the Gingina backed out, Golovkin had every reason to believe he'd be fighting Eubank Jr. The whole thing was Eddie Hearn's doing: Days before the contracts were actually signed, Eubank Sr "dun lost his mine," as we now know, making absolutely untenable demands. Hearn already had the venue & date locked down, and you can't just change that without huge financial penalties. He only had a few days to find a replacement, or lose the date completely. So, Hearn offered the fight to Brook, and Brook jumped at the chance. Sure, Golovkin could have said no, but then he'd simply have no fight at all, and would have lost another 4-6 months of the precious time he has left. ---------------------- At the end of the day, if it would have really come down to "This fight, or no fight at all" for Golovkin, then I can't get too mad about it. LondonRingRules
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! --- Junior makes more $ for Hearn than Brooksie, so I don't doubt the very difficult Sr created these obstacles and I say that as a fan of his. Time for boxing primadonnas to step up or continue to lose ground to the UFC who in spite of a bad year just cashed out for a cool $4 bil.

WelshDevilRob
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! Eddie Hearn on GGG vs Eubank: “We have a model with our fighters. The problem was that Chris Eubank (Snr) wanted operational control of the show. He wanted to select his own ticket prices, which when I saw I nearly fainted. I would have been strung up. He wanted to select his own undercard, select the purses for the undercard. Even security and hotels. I don’t need that hassle in my life - that’s what we do, that’s what we’ve done for 30 years. They Fight and we'll make them all the money in the world. We do an unbelievable job and they collect it at the end. I'm not going to give a fighter and an ex-fighter operational control of an event that could go horribly, horribly wrong. That's not the way we work." Zute
Re: GGG vs Brook? Whoa!!! If everything Eddie Hearn said is true then what can you do? This fight will draw and do big numbers. Many people in boxing have defended fights that most didn't like by sayin they were good business decisions, that boxing Is a business. Well if we use that excuse, we cannot pick and chose when we use it. This is a great business decision. GGG was not going to get a bigger fight than this one. He could have fought Tureano Johnson or Heiland, and those who say he has not fought anyone great yet, would still be saying that, and he would not make nearly the same amount of money.
