Ricky Burns looking for rematch with either Crawford or Zlaticanin

Recommended Posts

RICKY BURNS has revealed he wants to get back in the ring with the man who previously deposed him as world champion. Burns became the first Scot to win titles at three different weight divisions when he stopped the Italian Michele di Rocco at the Hydro last month to land the WBA super-lightweight belt.

Now the Coatbridge fighter wants a re-match with either Terence Crawford, who took his WBO lightweight crown at the SECC two years ago, or Dejan Zlaticanin, the Montenegrin who defeated him in his first bout after losing that belt and who is now the holder of the WBC lightweight title. Burns had stepped up a weight to fight di Rocco at light-welterweight and revealed he is open to fighting again at 140lbs or dropping back down to 135, with Glasgow or the United States the options for an autumn fight.

“If I'm staying at super-lightweight, then the biggest name is Terence Crawford,” the 33 year-old told Sky Sports. “I fancy him to get the job done in the unification fight against Viktor Postol. What a fight that would be. If I'm going to go back to lightweight then it'd be the rematch with Zlaticanin.

"Eddie Hearn [burns’ promoter] says September or October back in Glasgow and there's also talk of going back out to the States again. I'm willing to stay at super-lightweight but I can do lightweight as well and if there's a big fight there then I'll drop down.

"I said before the Di Rocco fight that if I won, it would open up so many more options for me at both weights so we'll wait and see what they come up with. After watching Zlaticanin win, I was straight on the phone to my management team to ask if they'd seen it and telling them to get on the phone to Eddie and seeing what the chances of making that fight would be. I'd love to fight him again.

"It would be a totally different outcome but fair play to him - he's got a couple of big wins and he's got that world title. I'd be more than happy to fight him again.

"Crawford is another name to mention. He's got a unification fight coming up against Postol. Eddie also mentioned Adrien Broner after the Di Rocco fight but I think he's moved back up to welterweight, which would be one step up too far for me.”

Burns is not better compared to previous fights against them, but his opponents seem to be. But if you ditch big figts, there's not point of boxing whatsoever.

How about a rematch with Omar Figueroa?

- Only this time without that POS referee Lawrence Cole. (Who should be tied down and eaten alive by rats.)

I don´t think it´s a good idea for Bruns to face Crawford again. Crawford was the better man when both met. Bud has improved a lot since his fight with ricky and in a rematch burn would get stopped. On the other sight is it from a financial standpoint the better fight for ricky. Ricky is a true warrior

Indeed. Crawford has improved dramatically since then. He's now practically the perfect boxer, both offensively and defensively. Burns would be destroyed.

(Crawford - Postol is a fascinating matchup. I can't wait for this one.)

What makes you think Dejan Zlaticanin would be able to hurt Burns more this time around?

Because he has stopped a guy just as big as Burns in 4 rounds, in his second to last outing. ;-) And he obviously whooped Burns ass the last time, that judge that scored it for Burns should be HANGED. :whip: And whipped, why not. :haha:

I can see the Zlaticanin rematch being worthwhile but, as others have said, fighting Crawford is a bad idea. Crawford's on another level and probably still improving - not to mention that he'd have little interest in a rematch unless the money was great. He should try and get a shot at Molina or even a Figueroa rematch.
