Provodnikov in danger of becoming a journeyman

Do you think Provodnikov is in danger of becoming a high level journeyman? He has lost 4 of his last 7 fights and I can't see things getting better for Ruslan. Maybe due to his fighting style he has taken too much punishment and it's time for the 32-year-old to retire. Thoughts?

LOST John Molina Jr

WON Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez 15 0 0

LOST Lucas Martin Matthysse 36 3 0

WON Jose Luis Castillo 66 12 1

LOST Chris Algieri 19 0 0

WON Mike Alvarado

LOST - Timothy Bradley Jr

Well to be fair, the Bradley fight was FOTY, he should've gotten the decision against Algieri, and some people (not me) thought he deserved a draw against Matthysse. I just don't think he'll beat a top junior welterweight or welterweight anymore in his career. But he'll be a tough out for anyone, and i wouldn't put a top prospect against him.

--- KTFO out of Algieri and Bradley, but arum wanted them softened and propped up for manny.

His result against Molina competitive, but Molina surprised with a new boxing style and training regimen, but yeah, I recall he wants to run for office in Siberia where he's a hero. Might retire soon, but he still KTFO out of 95% below him.

In my opinion he lost clearly to Mathyssee and result in the fight against Algieri was just too. I don't see him as a journeyman, though. He takes too much punishment and it will pay off in the future.

Provodnikov in danger of becoming a journeyman

I tend to think of him in a similar manner to Gabe Rosado right now. Rosado lost a load of fights in a row recently but they were all to top fighters. I think both are capable of holding a world title in the right circumstances but they do sort of take big pay days to get beaten by the top boys so that kind of is journeyman behaviour...

Micky Ward was a journeyman wasn't he. Can still earn a lot of money and be involved in some amazing fights but chances are you'll never wear the WBC T-shirt

Looking at the rankings who would you say Ruslan can beat? Crawford or Postal are just far superior. Peterson if he's still at 140 beats him. Wouldn't mind to see an Algieri or Herrera rematch.

I think that he deserved to win the fight with algieri but i also think he lost to Matthysse. The Problem with Provodnikov is that he is (a) one dimensional and (b) get´s to fast frustrated when he boxes an opponent with jap and legs to move. He moves to much on that warrior mentality and also takes to much in his fights. I think he is a a-class journeyman. Every time he lost, he lost against boxers who avoided to stand in front of him. I was surprised by the very smart Matthysse who simply outboxed and outsmartet him. If he faces somebody like Alvarado or Rios then Rusland would win. It´s also a part of matchmaking for him to win figjhts.

Provodnikov is a slugger but with two main problems: he is not a power puncher and he has a little reach for the division. So, i think he´ll have a short and damaging career. Maybe he´ll never get a world title. Well, maybe one of those WBA´s:haha:

Re: Provodnikov in danger of becoming a journeyman

--- Already won the light welt WBO when he KOed Alvarado and deserved a 1st rd ko against Bradley before that when Tim did the Judah chicken dance, going down twice on the same punch that the dummy ref ruled a slip.

Agree though, he looks to have a fairer chance at Russian politics than dirty American politics.
