Liam Williams vs Gary Corcoran set for Cardiff Ice Arena

Big time boxing returns to Cardiff this summer as two of the UK’s unbeaten champions put it all on the line in what should be a fight of the year contender. British and Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Williams defends his titles against WBO Intercontinental Champion Gary Corcoran. The bitter rivals will lock horns in a grudge match showdown at the Cardiff Ice Arena on Saturday 16th July, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Another bill coming to Cardiff now that the Ice Arena Wales is a venue that can support boxing. Looks like Bradley Skeete vs Dale Evans on the card. Several talented Welsh prospects plus Tommy Langford. Unfortunately, it looks like the recently scraped Swansea bill which was to be headlined by a big domestic clash between Chris Jenkins and Mitch Buckland, won't be added to the Cardiff card. Still hoping though.

Obviously, Rigondeaux is unreliable but having been re-instated by the WBA I'd expect to see him in action. Still more fights to be announced.

Now confirmed. Fingers crossed.

Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Jazza Dickens confirmed for Cardiff

“I am excited to announce my next fight against Jazza Dickens in the UK on July 16th. I look forward to seeing all of the great fans of the sport in the UK and giving them an unforgettable performance. It’s unfortunate this fight could not happen sooner as planned but thanks to my team, we are now prepared to put on a great show.”

Re: Rigondeaux fighting in Cardiff in July

Rigondeaux probably the best boxer on the planet with the worst management team. It's laughable when you think of some of the garbage talent out there who make a fortune out of boxing due to good promoting/management.

Good to see him in the ring again.

Re: Rigondeaux fighting in Cardiff in July

It looks an easy, too easy defense of his title for Rigondeaux. Surelly, to become popular in the UK, and challenge another british boxer, like Quigg or McDonnell.

Hopefully, he won´t have any problems with his VISA. Anyway, when he destroyed Willie Casey five years ago, he fought in Ireland. Are there so many differences to get your VISA between Ireland and Wales, or it´s just because the security levels have changed a lot from 2011?.

Quite the bold statement there mate.. Not sure about best on the planet, he might be the top SB fighter but he's definitely not my favourite in that weight class. I find him seriously boring.

Re: Rigondeaux fighting in Cardiff - Round by Round

Started from 3.30pm. Think I missed first two fights, as traffic was horrendous and then struggled to find the car park.

Thoroughly enjoyed the card and was a cracking atmosphere. Couple of crowd fights but also a huge one on the rink area and the police were there. Was during the Williams vs Corcoran fight but luckily didn't spill ringside and stop the fight. Rigo was treated like a God by the fans - I'm sure after that kind of reception he'll want to comeback. Williams vs Corcoran was a tough fight and just what Liam needed.

.

But he really isn't. He's clearly one of the top 5 most talented fighters, but to be "the best" you have to do your job, and that job is 50% to entertain the fans. That's why they get paid. Rigo has proven many times that he literally doesn't givafuk.

This never stopped Mayweather's earning power, nor Wlad's, nor Haye's. Your job is to fight and ideally win - if you want to get guarantee decent earnings, you need to entertain the fans or at least keep them buying tickets and PPVs, but if you're happy with relatively little, carry on.

Re: Rigondeaux fighting in Cardiff - Round by Round

Langford vs Laine - Langford looked good and controlled the fight from start to finish. He gassed a little around round 6 but that didn't stop him getting the TKO in round 7. If he fights Eubank next he will need to pace himself better.

Williams vs Corcoran - That was a cracking first round. Why didn't O'Conner give a knockdown when the ropes saved Corcoran from hitting the canvas? It was so blatent that the ropes kept him up. Burst nose, head butt, clean shots, knockdown not given and afters after the bell - cracking first round.

Before the cut in round 4 I had Corcoran winning. You could see the cut got to Corcoran and it affected his performance.

O'Conner, what a a shit ref he is. Both fighters were doing what they want without punishment apart from the point deduction for Corcoran after he hit Williams while leaning on his shoulder/back.

Williams through-out the fight was using his head and twice in last 30 seconds of round 10 he used his head right in front of O'Conner and he didn't want to know. Corcoran was holding and hitting during breaks through-out the fight.

I wouldn't mind a rematch and hopefully no cuts this time.

Ringside report: Rigondeaux, Williams and Flanagan win in Wales

“In its continued desire to reduce the number of champions, the WBA Championships Committee has ordered WBA Super World super bantamweight Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs), the cagey southpaw from Miami by way of Santiago de Cuba, and WBA World interim super bantamweight champion Moises “Chucky” Flores (25-0, 17 KOs), from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, to begin negotiations to unify the titles.
