Terry Flanagan's next opponent is 42 years old

Recommended Posts

WBO World lightweight champion Terry Flanagan's next defence is against South African Mzonke Fana. Fana has a 38-9, 16 KOs record. He currently holds the South African and interim WBO Africa lightweight titles. He's won his last two fights but was beaten twice in 2015.

He held the IBF World super featherweight title in 2007 and 2010, He was Ko'd in 2 rounds by Marco Antonio Barrera back in 2005 and his been a professional since 1994.

Flanagan's promoter is trying to make a unification with WBA champ Anthony Crolla - who has beaten Darleys Perez and Ismael Barroso in his last two fights. Flanagan has beaten Diego Magdaleno and Derry Mathews.

The fight with Fana is on the Fury vs Klitschko 2 undercard. Why are they making this fight?

Crolla fought Barroso and Flanagan is taking this fight. #Levels ;-)

But seriously, this is the fight Flanagan is taking yet Frank sits there and goes on about Flanagan being a PPV with Crolla and deserving of 50/50 split. Don't make me laugh. Have your fighter earn it like Crolla has had to instead of doing jokes like this while waiting for Eddie to give you a handout..

Re: Terry Flanagan's next opponent is 42 years old

I remember seeing Fana get outclassed by Barrera at super feather in *2005*! I appreciate there might not be a lot of money for the Fury-Klitschko undercard and they don't need to sell the bill on the basis of the quality of the other fights but this a pretty depressing matchup. It does nothing for Flanagan other than keep him to some extent in the public eye.

Fana still is decent for a 42year old. There have been worse mismatches than this imo

Surely you can't accept rubbish fights just because there have been worse. What precedent does that set? The point a lot of people are making is Frank is so fast to publicly slate other fighters and promoters for easy defences yet has no problem with them for his fighters and always has some excuse for it. His Excuse for Liam Smith's last defence was it was Eddie Hearn's fault
