iamasadlittleboy
Just been doing a mega binge on Naoto Takahashi, "prince of the reversal", and was sad seeing his downfall. He looked REALLY good in his early fights, then had a couple of wars with Mitsuo Imazato (one of which will be the subject of a future "Closet Classic") for the Japanese Bantamweight title. A couple of losses followed, including a sickening KO loss to Tadashi Shimabukuro. That resulted in him moving up in weight, where he claimed a second Japanese title, winning a back and forth fight with Mark Horikishi. That bout, I'm 1989, was thrilling but began the end of Naoto. Naoto's last win was against Noree Jockygym. In that one the Japanese youngster was battered in round 2 (dropped hard and left with a bloodied nose) before mounting a sensational come back (another "Closet Classic"). A rematch with Noree saw a shot looking Naoto suffer a wide 10round loss on the Tyson vs Douglas undercard. Naoto was dropped early, given a standing count in round 10 and looked like a fighter who was done. The loss to Noree should have been the end. Instead he fought on, fighting at Featherweight, where he went 1-1. The loss coming to a Korean who scored a SICKENING KO. That fight left him with a brain hemorrhage and ended his career. IMO he should have retired after the horrible showing against Noree. Anyone want to offer any other examples? :) Sent from my PE-TL10 using Tapatalk

If ever there was a fight that should have been your last, surely the top two contenders would be Ali v Holmes and Leonard v Norris. Sammy
Re: Fights that should have been the end? If really a fight should be the last, I would have want the bout : may W. vs Pacquiao to be the last for may W. it was a good match-up though not one of the greatest bout, just one of the greatest match-up. That would have been a better way to say "I retire"

That would have been a better way to say "I retire" I totally agree with you, considering how the fire-st match up went with may weather retaining his title and mannynot been pleased with the out come. So a remarch will do the maggic
Million Dollar Baby
Re: Fights that should have been the end? For me it's the present hyped one. Money vs pacquiao. But I surely wanted pacquiao to win to end the arrogance of mayweather.
Killer Punch
Re: Fights that should have been the end? Their managers should be bold enough to make the big decision. I am not sure how it works, but his partner at the ring would know if he still got it. Edited February 29, 2016 by Killer Punch
WelshDevilRob
Re: Fights that should have been the end? Nigel Benn after the Sugar Boy Malinga defeat in the rematch. Nigel was pretty much done after the McClellan fight but got two wins (Vincenzo Nardiello and Daniel Perez). Malinga was always a problem for Nigel but the rematch showed he was a shell of his prime. He would go onto lose two fights to Steve Collins - who was very lucky with his timing and made a name off old Benn and old Eubank.
