Qiu Xiao Jun over-comes Raymond Commey defends WBA International crown

Over the past couple of days Zovi boxing, in association with CCTV5, have put on a couple of huge Chinese cards to celebrate the new year. The first of those cards, which took place on Thursday was headlined by a bout between former world champion Xiong Zhao Zhong [熊朝忠] and APB champion Lu Bin [呂斌], whilst Friday's card was headlined by one of the most promising Chinese fighters coming through the ranks.

 

That Chinese fighter was Qiu Xiao Jun (20-2, 9) [裘晓君] who battled with Ghana's Raymond Commey (13-3, 7) in a defense of Jun's WBA International title.

 

Jun, who was given a brilliant build up ahead of the fight by the "Classy" Jimmy Lennon Jr, looked like he was going to have this one over early when he dropped Commey early on and seemed unable to miss with anything he threw. Through the opening few rounds it was an impressive performance form Jun who looked like a fighter who had come a long way in recent months and had built on his boxing ability, which had been very raw in recent bouts.
