IBF President Daryl J. Peoples told ESPN Deportes that Martin will have a period of one year to make a mandatory defense of his title.

"Martin won the fight," said Peoples. "So let him enjoy his new belt and he'll have a year to make his mandatory fight. By next week we will know who will be positioned for his mandatory challenger."

Erkan Teper must surely be getting dropped after all the drug cheating revelations.

Martin has said he'd like to unify and wants a big fight but Wilder and Fury both have mandatory defences to deal with.

Who do you see Martin defending against?

--- Believe he's a Haymon fighter, so he'll be matched lightly.

Give the inferior Martin a year, yet they stripped Fury within 10 days, a bunch of crooks.

He'll have to be matched lightly. There's at least 4 British heavyweights who can beat him. He's not even in the top 20 for my money.

The IBF statement should have read "Martin's a really average fighter but he's American and signed to Haymon and therefore a cash cow. We're giving him 3 voluntary defences against even more inferior opposition providing we can find it."

Got to agree with other posters here-although Fury is an idiot this just shows how unfair boxing is and does not deserve this-Charlie Martin got lucky with his injured opponent-lets see what he is made of.

 This would be incredibly funny, if it weren't so spot on.

It is sad and blatant. Consistency would go a long way for these sanctioning bodies to have credibility. It is not like Martin was injured, he barely broke a sweat. Who do you all think the No. 1 will be by next week?

Re: Charles Martin given 1 year to make mandatory defence

I wish the IBF would hurry up and update their rankings. In their December ones Erkan Teper is listed but likely dropped now, while Steve Cunningham is moving back down to Cruiserweight - seems bad timing, as a potential fight with David Haye or an IBF shot would be realistic. Robert Helenuis and Dereck Chisora both ranked, so would seem to have a good chance of getting the call to face 'Prince'.
