Re: American prospect of the year

Spence, of course.

- but my runner up is Marcus Browne, and I'm glad to see he made your list. Marcus is COMING, baby!

Bivol is the kid that may force Kovalev into retirement, but Browne is the guy that might actually beat him. (with a little more seasoning first.)

Beterbiev is the wildcard, of course, but he's just so bad defensively that I don't see his power getting him through.

LHW is getting very interesting ......

Re: American prospect of the year

I thought Saul Rodriguez had the most impressive win. Blasted out Najera in 1 round, when he went the full 10 against Verdejo in his previous fight.

Najera-Verdejo is what made me start to question the future of Verdejo. Felix still pretty much dominated (as well he should have) but he looked positively feather-fisted. He also didn't seem to have any clue how to change up his attack & try a different approach. Verdejo is massively talented, (and should have been on this list, IMO) but he's quite possibly not elite.

--------------

BTW -

Whoever is the guy that voted for Jarett Hurd, I'd like to know more. I've seen VERY little of him.

I think he's not on this list because he's Puerto Rican. It seems everyone wants to label him as the next Trinidad, which is unfair. He did put Najera down twice. They need to match him against a gate keeper/former title holder.

Re: American prospect of the year

Odd, I thought Verdejo was living in the USA.

I was wrong, of course. - Thanks !

(My brain sometimes leaves me for short periods of time. I have no idea where it goes, but it often comes back with a bunch of cheap souveniers and various other worthless crap. Maybe Tijuana. Well, at least it always DOES come back. So far.)

And while he did put Najera down, the number of punches he landed flush that seemingly did no damage was staggering.

Well, maybe I should watch that fight again. I just remember being incredibly underwhelmed.

Re: American prospect of the year

I'm not sure i ever watched that fight on television, but i was there live. Everyone in attendance were going crazy, so that might've swayed my judgement on his performance. That was also the night Walters came in heavy against Marriaga.
