edsel77x
After a lot of rumors flying around in recent weeks and months about Floyd Mayweather Jr. returning to the ring, the man himself spoke to FightHype.com's Ben Thompson, and made something very clear: Don't believe the hype. Mayweather says: * He's not fighting Paul Spadafora (he says he didn't even know Spadafora was still fighting) * He's not going to confirm (or deny, really) any return this summer * No matter what Roger Mayweather says, Floyd says he's only spoken to Roger a few times in the last year There was no talk of Floyd fighting at Cowboys Stadium, as Roger Mayweather says has been in the works. Roger said that Mayweather and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have been discussing a summer fight for the mega stadium, where Manny Pacquiao fought twice last year, but Mayweather says that everything printed is "nothing but lies." Take, of course, with a grain of salt, as you must do with everything any of the Mayweathers say, but this is from Money Mayweather himself, not his uncle/trainer, not a yes-man, not a mysterious rumor floating in the wind. As for Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Floyd made the usual statements. Make of them what you wish. http://www.badlefthook.com/
edsel77x
this guy let his himself and his ego ruin his career! Sad waste of talent. So his actions for me confirmed that he felt that he could not beat Manny. Action speak louder than words.
iamasadlittleboy
He has court cases in July and September....lets just say he won't be in the ring this year...He turns 35 in February next year....if he returns any loss now will be "he was old", "not the fight he used to be" etc etc... gavpowell
The way to disprove that is(assuming he gets out of his prison sentences) to come back, beat Spadafora or some other mug just to show off the skills, then make a big fight of some description. Tune-up fights are fine if you've had a long layoff, they're only not fine when you do it the Roy Jones way and put half a dozen tune-ups in before fighting anyone with a pulse. But basically, until Mayweather's getting in the ring or there's news on his court case, I'm not interested in anything else about him.
edsel77x
Yes but there was a lot of speculation concerning his ring return. I for one and wanting to see him in the ring. If I can get confirmation that the rumors are true not true then it news to me. As much as I despise him at times for his redundant commentary I still want to see him fight and hold out hope that he'll get in the ring.
littleman370
as much as i think mayweather is out and out asshole, it would be a delight to see him in ring again. not only because he's such a damned good fighter, but because in my heart i don't think he'll fight again so it really will be a big surprise for me

brooklynbrawler
There's only one phrase to sum up Mayweather - "Wasted talent." Some believe this guy had the potential to become the best fighter of all time. While I'm not of the same persuasion, I think it's difficult to argue against most of the showings he has had. Just a shame he believed his own marketing too much and rarely fought prime dangerous opponents. Now he'll always just remain an enigma, who will divide opinions for many years, as he never answered the critics inside the ring, despite rarely being troubled by the calibre of fighter he did face. The lineal champ thing has been argued a number of times over, and he's achieved it at a couple of weights yes, but without nitpicking over the little things, I'd say a guy with his talent somehow managing to not fight anyone of real note over 135 lbs in how many years now since he moved up, pays testament to itself. If he had been the guy to defeat Cotto, Margarito, Martinez, Pacquiao....to name but a few, we would all be talking about him in a different light. I'm not knocking the accomplishments he has had and I'm not saying he's not capable of beating these guys. The fact is he talks about himself as a superstar and simply hasn't bothered proving it in far too long. So yeah, I think his talent has been wasted. davemurphy
It's a great situation to find yourself in, just lay out long enough between fights to where you can be overpaid for tuneups that you say you'll need. Let's face it, but for the Earthquake in Haiti that left Mosley free of Berto and Floyd without a excuse NOT to fight him, we'd have never even seen THAT one. I seriously doubt we ever see Floyd Mayweather in with someone who's got a legitimate chance of beating him, he'll try to finish out his career playing this Con Game and trying to stave off the IRS while protecting his Zero. However, at some point doing those two things will be impossible and he'll end up losing a fight......either because he simply gets to old to play this shell game and loses to one of the tuneup fighters, or he gets so far in debt that he has to face a serious challenge. It's the nature of the game and Floyd Mayweather is not immune to it, he just thinks he is.
