The_budweiser
Dazzling Darren targeting UK blockbuster after Euro clash with Spada Darren Barker has told Matthew Macklin that their long awaited fight must happen this year if they get through their upcoming title fights. Barker takes on Domenico Spada at London's Olympia on Saturday night for the vacant European Middleweight title live on Sky Sports. Should the Londoner regain the title he was forced to surrender when he pulled out of a defence against Macklin through injury. The 28 year-old aims to pick up the strap for the second time against the tough Italian and will then become an unlikely fan of Macklin when he faces Felix Sturm in June for the WBA Super World Middleweight title - with a win for the Brummie would bring the highly anticipated fight with Barker a step closer. "He's just swerved me basically - I want to fight him and prove that I'm the best, it's just a shame that deep down he knows that I'll beat him," said Barker. "Everyone wants to watch us fight and in that respect I am annoyed at him for not taking me on. Why not boost the profile of the sport here by setting up these big British fights? iamasadlittleboy
A big lol from me here. Swerving into a world title fight...seems more like Mack has gotten a big fight whilst Barker is, ahem, barking up the wrong tree. I personally give Mack no chance against Sturm and if the unthinkable happens he'd be stupid not to chase money in the US. If Mack loses will Barker still want him? I think not. Only way they face off is if both lose.
davemurphy
LOL, only in Darren Barkers World does a guy duck him by taking on Felix Sturm for a title. I sense a bit of jealousy on Barkers part.....and your right, the only way it happens is if BOTH lose, Scott.
iamasadlittleboy
I do realise it's a press release and stuff but it's an annoying one that irked me when 10 people posted it on Twitter.
ucgdcxw
Was it not Barker that pulled out of the fight injured? Cant expect Macklin to wait around when he has been offered a world title shot.

londoner
It does seem that if they both lose their next fights then the fight will be a good kick start to both guys' careers. I can't see Barker losing his next fight but i really can't see Macklin beating Sturm. Maybe Barker will get a title shot next and lose then in the next 9 months or so we'll see them in the ring having both lost in title shots this year? I'll be honest Spada is probably the toughest tests of Barker's career and Barker is coming in with a year lay off...
Crusader
Spada is tough customer and has much more international experience than Barker, is used to fight no problems on foreign ring has not great power in the hands but is aggressive and continuous, Domenico is solid physically and mentally, Barker is perhaps the best boxer of both, may, however escape the upset.. Siren1927
Barker need to concentrate on getting past Spada, hopefully his sparring has gone well and he can shake off the rust in a round or two, but the potential for the upset here is huge. I agree with you and Crusader, I think the upset is a real possibility, I like Barker but we need to see more from him before people can say he is world champion material, he has looked good in his career bar last fight but he had the hip problem. This fight could be like Macklin vs Varon (Very tough) and kind of expose Barker, I hope not though.
londoner
Well, Barker kept up his side of the deal. Now, let's see if Macklin can dethrone Sturm i guess. But, i think if Macklin can do that, he'll go after bigger names than Barker.
