WelshDevilRob
Sturm vs Macklin? Looks like WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (35-2-1, 15 KOs) will defend his belt against Matthew Macklin (28-2, 19 KOs) on either June 25 or July 2 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. Macklin pulled out of a WBA eliminator against Khoren Gevor on April 16 because of a contractual dispute. Looks to be a good move as he will now go directly to the title shot. iamasadlittleboy
In a funny twist of fate, Sartison pulling out of the WBO/WBA SMW Unificiation has allowed Macklin a fight with Sturm and Gevor a fight with Stieglitz... Anyone else think of a case where a fight gets canceled and both walk into world title fights?

I quite happy with it, Gevor is a tough fight for average Stieglitz and Macklin finally getting Sturm is decent scrap, it will be tough for Macklin to win especially in Germany. iamasadlittleboy
Gevor isn't world class though lets be honest, he lost last time out to Sartison and shouldn't have been granted a world title fight so soon afterwards. Fair enough it's a late replacement, what a week before the fight? Still not happy. In fact Gevor is 0-3 in world title fights and 4-3 in his last 7 (1-2 in his last 3) he should have to earn a title fight. Macklin is distinctly average (and thats being polite) Sturm won't have any problems at all with him. In fact I'll go one further Sturm stops him late. Giovanni Lorenzo is another case of these fighters getting too many chances with out earning them. Saturday's loss to N'Dam N'Jikam comes 7 months after losing to Sturm, won't Gio ever fall out of the WBA's rankings?
londoner
I think Macklin deserves the title shot but i can't see him winning against Sturm. I think he'll put up a fight but will lose by a wide UD. Hopefully he bounces back though and fights Barker later this year or next year. A win over Barker could put him right back into contention for another title shot.
