ESPN FNF's special: Presscott vs Lawson.

A real cracker of a WW fight tonight, on the Thursday edition of FNF !

Bredis Prescot definitely came to win, and took quite a few of the middle rounds. - But Fredrick Lawson 23 (20) - 0 fought a brilliant & controlled battle, and managed to win a well-deserved split decision.

I'd only seen Lawson twice before, and he seemed more like a fast & aggressive brawler, with some serious balance / defensive issues. However, tonight Lawson, who is training with Abel Sanchez, looked like a complete fighter. IMO this guy is a real comer, and I suggest you keep an eye out for him.

Tonight he showed great fundamentals & tons of aggression, yet a controlled defense. . I watched Lawson's feet carefully, and I really like what I see. Low balance, great placement, (not too wide) good bounce, excellent center-of-gravity. Sanchez is doing a great job with him.

--------------

Oh , and the fight itself might just be the current FOTY. (Although Amir Imam vs Fidel Maldonado is up there, too.) Check it out if you missed it.

--- Absent watching a fight that has no bearing on current top fighters, media reports are Lawson squeaked a split based on a dubious knockdown.

Clearly Prescott was hit in the back of the noggin after coming in to savage Lawson which resulted in his foot slipping out on the idiotic logo boxing uses to make themselves look like idiots. Why don't they spray a teflon coating on the entire ring to let everyone know what BS boxing officials are? Late in round 3 if you want to review to correct your blarney.

Re: ESPN FNF's special: Presscott vs Lawson.

Nah, it was a legit KD:

Prescot turned his head away, which is why the blow landed a little behind. That's totally Prescot's fault.

-And Prescot got himself off-balance by spreading his legs really wide, something a good boxer never does.

100% legit KD.

Besides, IMO Lawson was slightly further ahead than the cards would indicate, anyway.

But I agree about those damned ring logos. They might as well add puddles of oil, spikes, and flaming pits of fire.

We'll just have to disagree on this one.

:boxing:

--- Far be it for me to use the joke of Shannon Briggs as an example of a legit KD not called, but it is what it is, the unceasing weekly joke of what passes as officiating.

Go to the 4:20 mark for the fight, joke fights seldom last long. The ref missed KD occurs just after Briggs tosses the guy down and then threatens to beat him on the floor. Ref deducts a point for that poor show, rightly, but then Briggs starts pounding, the last shot to the stomach as the guy's legs slip out. Looked like someone sprayed teflon on his boots as he was running, slipping and sliding all other the place. Even more amazing was the guy was a boxrec top 80 heavy, lumped up tubby, 48 years old, and been KOed 14x previous:
