edsel77x
It might be a little early to see but the curiosity is killing. When the eventual showdown happens, who will come out victorious and how? edsel77x
JuanMa to sustain some damage but I expect him to survive as he did against Matagwa, eating shots like he did against Marquez, with Gamboa not able to withstand the hard body shot that JuanMa will administer to negate his speed. late round stoppage JuanMa wins. 30wins 27 by way of Knockout. RAZZ-MCFC
Gamboa will completely annihilate Juanma! Juanma has power but he is inferior to Gamboa in every other department Gamboa has power if not more than Juanma! Gamboa tends to stop the majority of his opponents inside the first 6 whereas Juanma, tends to stop them in the 2nd half of his fights, Concepcion and DPDL the 2 exceptions Juanma won't be able to cope with Gamboa's explosive speed and power that both come at the same time, if you saw the Solis fight just watch i think it was the 4th knockdown, unreal not only that but Juanma's a slow starter, compare that to Gamboa who explodes from the word go, i'm not sure if Juanma can handle that much pressure Juanma is good but Gamboa is a whole different animal! he's never been hurt from any of the KD's, they've always seemed to be flash knockdowns that have just caught him off balance, his recovery has been instant on every one of them Rafa showed what happens when you apply a bit of pressure to Juanma, he doesn't know what to do, everytime Rafa went on the attack Juanma was holding and clinching...now swap Rafa for Gamboa who won't relent in that sort of situation, and bear in mind Gamboa has killer instinct, i don't think we're in for a very long night Gamboa in

iamasadlittleboy
Just for the sake of getting the point out there... Gamboa average fight length 4.45 rounds per fight Lopez 4.23... Gamboa average title fight length 7.3...(6 fights combined 44 rounds) Lopez 5.6 (9 fights 51 rounds)* *Lopez at feather weight in title fights is also 5.6 (17 rounds, 3 fights)

edsel77x
Great Match up either way. The forum members will enjoy the predicts, Dont forget to vote. Great examples and facts RAZZ and iam! How would you all classify them both stylistically? Gamboa- boxer? boxer puncher? JuanMa- Boxer-puncher, Slugger, or a swarmer? I know for a fact that it is going to be a great fight with a great Build up so long as Arum doesnt hold it off so much as it loses steam. I'd like to see it this year. Very eager to see how JuanMa handles Salido?

Swarmer sounds about right but he can adapt to any of the styles you mentioned when he needs to Juanma is definitely a boxer, prefers a chess match over a slugfest

edsel77x
each sharing opponents leading up to the fight is what I consider build up. All the theatrics and trash talking is for the dogs. I never listen to that shite. What does that ever accomplish??? Nothing. So what I commonly refer to as build is composed of action in the ring. And a great way to do it. I happen to speak Spanish fluently and find anything either of the guys say of interest.
iamasadlittleboy
Your a lucky git knowing Spanish though :-p Before the fight gets done hopefully they'll sort out the ****ing WBA mess so we can have a genuinely important unification fight... Rob, what do you see in Lopez that makes you call it a 50/50? I think the power of both makes this an even fight and both have been down or hurt in the past. Neither is the finished article and both have some question marks. Nonetheless they are fantastic fighters and still improving. I think Gamboa is more talented interms of movement and reflex while Lopez is technically better in a standard way. Hard to call.

Hard to call. i wouldn't even say Gamboa's been hurt like i said before, the knockdowns he's suffered have all been flash knockdowns that have caught him off balance, he's never been clinching or holding afterwards to try to regain his senses, he's always gone straight back on the offensive
edsel77x
You're absolutely right. So that leaves the question of his chin. Can he or how will he handle a hard shot on the chops? They do have some question marks but that's what makes them exciting. I would loved to see Gamboa vs Pacquaio.

gavpowell
I reserve judgement until I've seen Gamboa against some top-flight opposition, but if he's got the discipline to stay counterpuncher for 12 rounds against Pacquiao, I think he could outbox the golden child to a wide decision, same as Marquez. EDIT: Obviously not the exact same as Marquez, which involves outboxing him for 11 rounds and losing a split decision.
brooklynbrawler
For me, this is a modern day Hagler-Hearns. Both have big power, neither is particularly chinny and they're both lightning fast. Some may see Gamboa and think "he's faster, he's stronger and he's got the finishing touch" but I don't see it like that at all. Just because Gamboa hasn't been majorly hurt so far, doesn't mean he's impervious. When Lopez hits him in the face, which he will, then he'll definitely feel it. I think an early knockdown will turn this into an all out war, which won't go much more than 4 rounds. At the moment I think it's 50/50, but we'll see how Juanma does in his next fight. donlevy
Lopez knocks him out.Never been impressed with Gamboa.Few rough patches early in the fight but I easily favour Lopez past the early stages. Don't get your hopes up though, because you can be sure that Uncle Bob isn't in any hurry to have them fight.

gavpowell
I just can't see the big deal about Lopez at the moment - he made hard work of Mtagwa, Salido, let his enthusiasm get away with him vs Concepcion. Even Rafa Marquez was giving him problems early on/ I think Gamboa is too fast and too clever for Lopez, and wins a mid-rounds KO.
