TommyLeeWannabe
» Click here to find out more! » Source : rds.ca == Jean-Luc Legendre, RDS's reporter, has learn that bernard Hopkins / Jean Pascal fight will take place on may 21st on HBO. The place is not set yet. But will in a week. B-Hop already told hi spromoter he accepts the fight. Pascal will in the next few days Why HBO ? Showtime told B-Hop they won,t have the money to pay for the fight. So they offer to HBO to broadcast the fight, and they choose this fight over the Pascal/Dawson II. But first, HBO telephoned Yvon Michel, asking who he prefers, Dawson or B-HOp. Talking about Chad Dawson, he will probably fight on the semi-final of the card. Two names in the books : Librado Andrade or ... Adrian Diaconu. He will choose in a couple of days

TommyLeeWannabe
Just read that the winner of the two fights (Pascal/Hop and Dawson/Andrade or Diaconu) will meet. And Richard Schaefer, GBP president sais they have no problem to return in Quebe cCity or Montreal if the Quebec athletic commission accept to have neutral judges and referee

However, the date of the rematch was important, Schaefer said. Hopkins, at 46, has no time to spare and Showtime had no room on its schedule, or money in its budget, until at least July." "When HBO showed interest and a willingness to pay in the $2.5 million-to-$3 million range for the rematch -- and had an earlier date available -- it got the fight while also working things out with Shaw to wait on the Pascal-Dawson rematch." donlevy
Good news.I personally enjoyed Hopkins-Pascal,turned out to be a much better fight than expected.Hopkins knows how to beat him already and Pascal isn't capable of making any real changes to prevent Hopkins taking him to school again. I hate when these two networks put on fights on the same date though. One card a weekend is more than enough.Certainly better than having two cards on the same night and then having to go weeks without fuck all. WelshDevilRob
Good to see the whole Pascal - Dawson - Hopkins situation has been sorted out. Dawson needs a fight to get the confidence back and has a new trainer to work with. Hopkins vs Pascal 1 was too close not to do it again. Still, not all perfect with the TV clashes - I shall be watching Froch vs Johnson.
Faulks
Great news for boxing this. Im already looking forward to it
davemurphy
I'm really surprised that Dawson took second spot on the Card, just goes to show you about Gary Shaw being a TV Broker and not a Promoter/Manager. Team Dawson raises a big stink about Hopkins getting first crack on a rematch from Pascal, but yet once HBO cuts him a check, then Shaw shuts up and accepts second banana position for his fighter. londoner
Hopkins also says this is the first fight of a 3 fight deal he has signed with HBO. He says he wants Dawson and Bute next.

davemurphy
Thanks, Tommy. To be honest, it never occurred to me that it would be anywhere BUT in Canada, DLH beating out the Canadian Bid didn't even occur to me. I'd be surprised if it was in LA, but now there is that possiblity.
TommyLeeWannabe
Same thing happened with the BUTE ANDRADE II fight. Bell Center was busy (hockey) that date, so they went for Quebec City.
