Donaire all set vs Montiel

MANILA, Philippines — It looks like the stage is set for upcoming Filipino boxing superstar Nonito Donaire, Jr.

In a recent public workout in San Carlos, California, the "Filipino Flash" claimed that he is all geared up to seize the bantamweight crowns from foe Fernando Montiel in their title match on February 19 (February 20 in Manila).

“I trained really hard for it, and I’m ready. It’s a long time coming. I’m mentally prepared," the boxer said in 3MoreRounds.com.

Donaire mentioned that this time, he will be stronger compared to what he was in 2009 before a supposed clash with Montiel got deferred.

"This is what I feel is my faith, now that I have the right people in my corner. Maybe back then he could have beaten me, but this time, I don’t think he can beat me," he said.

With utmost certainty now, Donaire will trade punches with the Mexican at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He will attempt to get hold of Montiel's World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight crowns.

Donaire considered this fight as his most vital in his career, noting it will measure what he is capable of as a boxer.

“It’s all or nothing. When I go in there, it’s all or nothing," he said.

"That’s why there’s no fear, I know what I need to do and that’s to beat Montiel,” the Filipino added.

Donaire, seen to be next in line to Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, has been undefeated since June 2001.

He carries a stunning 25-1 record with 17 of his bouts won via knockout (KO).

Montiel, on the other hand, holds an equally impressive record with 44-2-2. Of his bouts, the Mexican has won 34 via KO.

Montiel has been undefeated since knocking out another Filipino, Ciso Morales, February last year.
