iamasadlittleboy
Amir Khan is pleased to announce that he has reached an agreement to fight undefeated European champion, Paul McCloskey, at the Manchester Evening News Arena on Saturday April 16th. WBA world champion, Khan, said: “I am delighted that this fight has finally been put together following some tough negotiations. This is a matchup the British public want to see and will be a fantastic fight between two of the best light-welterweights in the country.” Khan will leave for his US training camp on the 9th of February following press conferences in Manchester and Belfast. http://www.amirkhanworld.com/?p=1132
iamasadlittleboy
And whilst we are on the subject http://hubpages.com/hub/Why-Amir-Khan-v-Paul-McCloskey-makes-sense >_>
brooklynbrawler
I don't agree. It may look good on paper, but it is and will be a total mismatch. It's the worst of all the proposed bouts imo.
iamasadlittleboy
It's better than most of the other matches imo. Katsidis is coming off a loss and it a lightweight Murray is a lightweight Prescott has lost twice in his last 4 (including to Mitchell who we now know isn't world level) Peterson keeps being given chances and blowing them, ditto Ortiz. Fight either of them and it's "They've been shown not to be world level already". In McCloskey it may well turn out to be a very very easy fight for Khan but it's harder to discredit than than beating guys coming up in weight, or guys that lost to Mitchell, or guys that lost to the man he's facing next or just faced. londoner
I also read that according to Richard Schaefer Berto vs Ortiz is close to being agreed for the same night in a televised double header.
iamasadlittleboy
It was always obvious that HBO would be showing a US fight the same night tbh
The_budweiser
Amir Khan's next defence of his WBA light-welterweight title will be against Paul McCloskey on April 16. The Bolton fighter will have his first fight on home soil since beating Dmitriy Salita in 2009 when he faces the Northern Irishman at the MEN Arena. McCloskey, 31, is the reigning European champion and has a perfect 22-fight record. It seemed a bout between the pair was unlikely to happen when the Dungiven southpaw ruled himself out of the running following a breakdown in negotiations. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12183_6734098,00.html
