WelshDevilRob
The proposed fight between Michael Katsidis and Robert Guerrero on March 5 in Anaheim, Calif., is off because of the devastating floods in Katsidis’ native Australia. Katsidis, from Queensland, said he couldn’t focus on boxing while his countrymen were suffering. Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, which handles both fighters, said he wants to move the fight to the April 9 pay-per-view card featuring Winky Wright and Matthew Macklin. “Katsidis had to pull out because of the floods in the region he lives in,” Schaefer said. “Some people have died, including people he knows. The floods have been just devastating. It’s very, very bad. “He couldn’t really keep his mind focused on training.” Schaefer said he and HBO officials are discussing possible replacement fights for March 5. Golden Boy is pushing for a junior lightweight bout between Jason Litzau and Adriene Broner. Litzau is coming off a stunning split-decision upset of Celestino Caballero in November. Broner, an explosive prospect, is coming off a first-round knockout of John Revish on Saturday. iamasadlittleboy
Can't complain too much about that. Hope Mickey K's family are all safe.
londoner
That's a proper reason not to fight. Katsidis didn't even cancel after his brother died, which he could have.
davemurphy
Same deal as Berto and the Haitian situation last year about this time, and this guy already earned our respect for already taking one fight under circumstances that most people wouldn't have. Some things superceed Boxing, this is one of them. Best wishes for Katsidis and his Family/Friends at this time of need.
WelshDevilRob
I was unaware they were planning this fight - good match-up. Fair play Katsidis will go from one quality fighter to another if given the chance. Completely understandable that he won't be able to fight. Jason Litzau vs Adriene Broner seems an interesting match-up. A test for both. Be interesting if prospect Broner can get past Litzau.
