RAZZ-MCFC
Sources close to the situation have informed us that former undisputed jr. middleweight champions Winky Wright has agreed to face European middleweight champion Matthew Macklin on April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout will co-headline the Golden Boy Promotions card featuring the long-awaited showdown between reigning lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez and comebacking future Hall of Famer Erik Morales. Macklin (28-2, 19KOs), who hasn't lost in the past 4 years, is riding an 11-fight win streak after scoring a 12-round unanimous decision over Ruben Varon last month. On the other hand, Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs), who ironically hasn't won in the past 4 years, last fought in April of 2009 when he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Paul Williams. Since that time, Wright has had one fight get cancelled (a tune-up against Grady Brewer), underwent knee surgery, and has struggled to find anyone willing to give him an opportunity. Although Macklin has been much more active, he has faced a similar dilemma as Wright in his inability to secure a recognisable name to prove himself against. It's a crossroads fight for both fighters, who are hoping to get into the mix for big fights. http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content9164.html

iamasadlittleboy
not sure winky has anything left though... he hasnt had a win in more than 4 years Losses to Hopkins and Williams are the only fights in those 4 years. It's not like he's on a huge losing streak.
WelshDevilRob
Seems a good match-up. Hard to tell how it will go. I think it all depends on how much Wright has left.

Joe Ko
If its that fight or the Barker they are both great fights.
RAZZ-MCFC
would personally rather see Macklin-Barker no interest in seeing Macklin take a scalp like Wright, at least with Barker it shows what level they both are actually at
Brick Top
Like a couple of others said if Wright has anything left at all he'll beat Macklin, I like Macklins attitude but he's not a world level boxer in my opinion unfortunatly.

His worst nightmare is a volume puncher, because his peek-a-boo style is tailor-made for people who throw fewer punches as he can make the miss almost every one. When a guy is throwing a hundred punches per round and you're only throwing back a dozen, then you're never going to get the nod.

Exactly, off subject slightly this is the only danger I see Mayweather against Pacquiao if they ever met
londoner
Macklin vs Wright would be a terrible bout IMO. Neither guy would look good and if Macklin did win (which i kind of expect him to as Wright is finished) he wouldn't get much credit for it. Joe Ko
Macklin wanted a big name and he has got it. Winky is past his best but its a good payday and will further increase his rankings position. Macklins last 2 fightshave been against really tough nobodies, they are good but hardly motivating, Macklin will be right up for this one and its an interesting clash of styles.
