James West vs Bruce Lee

Recommended Posts

James West of course was the character played by Robert Conrad on The Wild, Wild, West TV series circa 1965-1969 before Bruce Lee ever reprised Kato on The Green Hornet.

Conrad did all the fight scenes and most all the stunts. He was a short middleweight in the day of no particular note, but he studied some gymnastics and martial arts additionally which came in handy when he landed this role. His sidekick was a character actor Ross Martin, aka Artemas Gordon is a freaking genius, but that another story. This episode features long gone dwarf actor Micheal Dunn, aka Dr. Loveless, a recurring nemesis and another genius, but I digress.

Evidence of James West's fighting prowess and physical acumen, and keep in mind this went on most working days for 5 years unlike a typical Bruce Lee movie of one per year. In short, I figure West is good for the distance. Bruce Lee perhaps not so proven, so what sayeth you chaps? Go to the 11 minute mark for the setup for the first action and so on.

*** Dunno what's wrong with this software, but the links are youtube, oh well...

Conrad had a long time contact with the boxing community, managing fighters in LA, and here Floyd Patterson makes an appearance as a homesteader in a typical action sequence.
