Carlos Negron to move up to heavyweight

By Jim Dower: 2008 Olympian for Puerto Rico Carlos Negron (10-0, 7 KO’s) reportedly will be moving up from cruiserweight to campaign at heavyweight. The slender 6’6″ Negron has been fighting at cruiserweight since turning pro in 2009. Negron moves exceptionally well, has a long reach but is lacking in power. According to fightnews, Negron plans on weighing 215 lbs in his first bout at heavyweight on January 22nd in Carcel 1072m Bayamon, Peurto Rico.

Negron is going to have to find some power somewhere because at 215, he’ll still be nothing but skin and bones and without power, he’s going to be at the mercy of the stronger heavyweights that can punch and get inside his long reach. Negron might have been better off staying at cruiserweight. In the Olympics, Negron fought at light heavyweight and won his first fight but was eliminated in his 2nd bout against an Olympian from Kazakhstan.

Again BN24 making a complete balls up. Negron has power, 6 opening round KO's, the guy has a freaking 83inch reach, skills and at 21 is a very young Cruiser/Heavy. He'll grow into his body and power and anyone expecting anything else is bloody clueless. Amazingly at 6'6'' he could possibly boil down to LHW so not sure on why the move to heavy quite yet though can't complain he's a guy I really like the look of.
