dulais_valley
I had a quick browse and couldn't see such a thread here. Though I'd add one. Boxing deserves a good year I feel. This last one was a tad poor bar a couple of quality fights. These are the top ten fights I'd like to see in 2011: 1. David Haye - Wladimir Klitschko. The fight at heavyweight. Haye has more potential than Adamek to get America interested in boxing again and Wladimir is the better and more beatable (I believe such a thing can exist!) of the K bros. Vitali would make an acceptable replacement though. One of these fights has to happen. 2. Manny Pacquiao - Floyd Mayweather. Where does the ascent of Pacman's reputation for the casual viewer go next? It could be that he fights for a middleweight title at somewhere below or around light-middle but I think its safe to say pretty much everyone is sick to shit of seeing nonsense catchweight fights. First our sport confused the public with god-knows-how-many world belts at each weight. Add to that champions in recess, interim champions, silver belts and diamon belts. Catchweights were the last thing the sport needed though it isn't only Pac guilty of using them. The biggest thing he can do for the sport now is put away his differences with Floyd (and vice-versa) and get in the ring in 2011. Neither have long left in the sport, its time they give the sport that has made them famous a little somethign back. Potentially fight of the decade in significance if not excitement. 3. Nathan Cleverly - Juergen Braehmer or Beibut Shumenov. Despite his poor showing in Liverpool I believe Cleverly is on his way to the top and I'd like to see him fight the winner of this unification. Should he win he'd be brilliantly positioned to leverage a fight against Pascal in the UK or Cloud in the States. 4. Carl Froch - Andre Ward. I expect this to be the final of the Super 6 and hence I want to see it. I don't expect the greatest fight ever though barring the Dirrell stinker you have to go back some time for a boring Froch fight. The main reason I want to see it though is to give some credibility to my conviction that the Super 6 was good for the sport. At the end of the day we've had 8 (not including Ward's fight outside the S6) really decent level fights in one weight division despite it being inflicted with injuries or withdrawals. We also still have two of the three most legitimate challengers in the tournament so it has to be a good thing in my book. 5. Juan Manuel Lopez - Yuriorkis Gamboa. These two have been on a path to meet for the last two years and it has all the ingredients of a lower weight superfight. Both had good years and there and a great many other places for them to go other than to meet. I'd love it to happen before one slips to a loss though that doesn't seem too much of a risk right now. 6. Matthew Macklin - Darren Barker. Unlike the above fight these two seem destined not to get in a ring together. I hope 2011 proves me wrong because they are both great domestic/European boxers and it would be a shame for them to not be matched. I don't think either would quite make it on the world stage so want to see this before one gets down-valued by a heavy loss to the likes of Martinez. 7. Amir Khan - Timothy Bradley or Devon Alexander. The logical and likely fight to determine who the best light-welter is. It seems Khan has won himself a whole new army of fans with his gutsy performance against Maidana and rightly so. Clarity in a division and a possible British unified champ, what more could I want? 8. Miguel Cotto - Paul Williams. It seems Williams can't do 160 and Cotto sees his future at 154 so I reckon this fight makes a lot of sense. Both slick boxers with exposed weaknesses. Truth is people probably slightly overestimated just how good Cotto was pre-Margarito making outlandish statements that he'd clean up divisions and beat Mayweather. I see a similar truth in Williams; consistently ranked highly in P4P ratings despite having rarely faced an elite fighter at the top of their game. A big chance for on of them to regain their lost lustre but perhaps the career damage the loser faces will prevent this fight from happening any time soon? 9. Mikkel Kessler - Lucian Bute. Kessler had to pull out of the Super 6 due to his eye problems and will probably still be out for much of the coming year. So why not a fight with Bute from September onwards? Bute has been starved of meaningful opposition while most of the names in the division have been tied into the tournament or dropping onto the operating table. Kessler is coming off a win against one of the Super 6 semi-finalists and Bute is certainly "the man" outside of the tournament. 10. Bernard Hopkins - Jean Pascal II. Ol' Popkins deserves a rematch no? They are just the first ten that really popped into my mind. I'm sure there are more I'd like to see.
Skav
Martinez vs Pacquiao (will never happen but I can dream) Marquez vs Morales The rest have been said.
WelshDevilRob
Gotta say, I'd like to see all those fights, Dulais. Montiel vs Donaire is a fight I'd like to see and I'll get my wish as its been signed. I'd like to see Lucian Bute vs Andre Dirrell or Mikkel Kessler - I think those fights are possible as all 3 are free of the Super 6 and Kessler does plan on coming back. I'd like to see Dennis Lebedev get a shot at any of the Cruiserweight belts as I thought he beat Marco Huck.

brooklynbrawler
Brook-Jones the rest have been mentioned I'd say Brook vs Berto this year. They should both be around the same level around now, except Berto was gifted some early big opportunities, while Brook stayed at a standstill for a long time (too long). If he can overcome Jones, which I think he will, I reckon he should go straight for Berto in a unification bout. Both have similar styles and ability, and I think it would be pretty tough to call the winner.
londoner
1. Pacquiao vs JMM - I'd settle for Berto, Bradley/Alexander winner or Floyd. But, i'm really not bothered about him fighting Floyd. 2. Haye vs Adamek or either Klitschko - Haye didn't fight Adamek at CW and it makes perfect sense they should fight now. Or he could just fight the Klitschkos like he should. 3. Lemieux vs Pirog - Fireworks in this fight. 4. Khan vs Bradley - These two, IMO, are the best out there at 140 right now. 5. JMM vs Soto - This fight could be a FOTY contender and there would be big Mexican pride involved. A fight in September would make it perfect for Mexican fans. 6. Super 6 final - In my opinion it will be Froch vs Ward. 7. Hopkins vs Johnson - This rematch should've been made for the last decade and hasn't been. It is still not too late to be made. Both still look impressive. 8. Donaire/Montiel winner vs Agbeko/Mares winner - Makes sense and is a good bout in a great weight class right now. 9. Rhodes vs a 154lb World champion - Rhodes deserves a World title shot. 10. Any bout involving Lopez, Gamboa or John in the same ring - Chris John still has a lot to prove to many fans and every fan wants to see Lopez vs Gamboa. Featherweight is where the next tournament needs to be made. Other mentions: - Bute vs Winner of S6 - Just makes sense and would be a good bout. Not sure it can fit into 2011 as the S6 semi finals and final should cover the whole of 2011. - James DeGale vs George Groves - Not necessarily in 2011 though. - Vitali Klitschko vs Nikolai Valuev - A fight i've always wanted to see. - Tavoris Cloud vs Nathan Cleverly - Perhaps not in 2011 but at some point in near future. - Alexander Frenkel vs Denis Lebedev - Would be explosive. - James Kirkland's return to the ring - Will be interesting to see how good he is. It actually makes me feel sick to even think about it because it feels as if we have overdosed on the subject.
