“There has been plenty of speculation over the last few weeks regarding my future. As it stands we are looking closely at two options George Groves and Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr. Yesterday, we made a seven figure offer to George Groves for a second fight that would have seen him earn around double that of the first. Disappointingly, George rejected this offer so we are continuing our talks with Top Rank and HBO regarding Chavez Jnr. I understand the demand for the Groves fight in the UK, but also the demand in the US for the Chavez fight. Talks are ongoing and no doubt some further news will break soon. I’m happy to fight anyone, as I have done throughout my entire career.” *

Re: Carl Froch statement on his two opponents

i used to be a fan of froch but slowly but surely iv'e realised wat a tw@t he is, chasing a middle weight who got a gift decision after being beaten badly imo by vera last time out sayign there is a lot of interest int he fight...from who?? seriously who would want him to fight chavez over groves, he knows groves can hurt him, and he got out boxed, out fought, out muscled and he knows groves can only improve while he himself can only decline

I don't aprove of the Chavez fight either, but if Groves was offered a rematch he wasn't entitled to and has refused on grounds of money, it's not Froch's fault. Groves still owes DeGale a rematch but has been more than happy to snub that idea.

Why do you think Groves owes DeGale a rematch Gav?

Because it was a very, very close fight and Groves won by a single point on a majority decision, but many people thought DeGale won.Groves' answer to a request for a rematch was "Why should I? He's got no titles and he's coming off a loss" Well apparently that doesn't count when you're coming off a controversial world title shot you didn't earn in the first place.

I think Groves earned it, he was ranked by all three organisations prior to the fight if I recall correctly. You don't have to be high up there to earn it. As far as DeGale is concerned, I don't think many people wanted it anyway as James was painted as the bad guy of the fight and fans were happy with that controversial win. The fight itself wasn't exactly a classic, either. But I did have DeGale winning, admittedly.

The DeGale fight bored me to tears, but I can't abide double standards; if you're gonna refuse a rematch after a close fight on the cards, don't bleat about it when you're on the receiving end in a fight where you were about to be, at best, level on the cards when you got stopped.

Re: Carl Froch statement on his two opponents

I don't think he truly wanted a rematch in the end.

GG turned the straight £1m offer down cos it was littered with ifs/buts and was only amounting to about 25%. If it goes to purse bids he will get min 15% + addons which will add up to more than the £1m tabled anyway. He's stringing out for an improved offer - nothing to do with not wanting a rematch. GG wants it alright. Its Swerver who is trying to wriggle out of it again by claiming JCC Jr wants him in Vegas. 89 Days to go swerver [and I'm counting] - or the IBF belt goes back.

Re: Carl Froch statement on his two opponents

Froch aint swerving him-he has made the biggest purse offer Groves can hope to achieve and he doesnt want it!

It's not the biggest offer, as Selij quite clearly explained (concentrate). With the IBF ordering an Immediate Rematch, George doesn't have to have Eddie Hearns four fight options put on him.

1 million for a fight this size was silly and the first offer, George has gone to the IBF, played the game and now, if Carl really wants the fight, will get better paid. (without options)

Re: Carl Froch statement on his two opponents

What else do you get besides the 25% of the purse?

And Groves is already signed to Hearn - can't see why there'd be options if he's already on the books.

Purse bid is open to anyone not just Eddie Hearn.

Even if Groves gets 1 million, he is not stuck to options and possibly a venue, he wasn't keen on i.e Nottingham.

--- Due credit for playing the official game, but not sure if it nets Groves that much more.

Seems like he might be trying to kill the fight by making the fight a bigger headache than can be stomached by Froh. At the end of the day, much bigger fights than this have been killed. Maybe he just wants a vacant belt and soft IBF opponent to win the belt, I can't say.

His stoppage reminded me of the Mitchell stoppage by Katisidis except that Mitchell was trapped on the ropes when the ref stopped it as opposed to Groves staggering in the middle of the ring. Mitchell had his moments and was equally full of himself as well as fairly untested and it showed in both cases when the big bombs arrived.

I do wonder about your intelligence sometimes, Mofo.

A man goes to the governing body to force a rematch which inturn gives him a fair hand at the negotiation table. Why go to the governing body to force a rematch, if you are swerving?

You really need to start seeing things from both sides. You are only looking at the one offer and not the rest.

He shouts he screams-he gets the fight on a plate with huge incentives and he says no....apparently one of his issues was the venue ffs :mlol:

Re: Carl Froch statement on his two opponents

I think it's a situation where Groves management would like to make it look like they are about making the rematch, but with each passing day Carl Froch gets older and a bit more worn, and their young charge gets better. I don't think it's a case where they want to resist the fight, but that it's a better fight the further they can place it down the road.

Re: Carl Froch statement on his two opponents

Carl started off years ago rubbing me the wrong way and especially his nipping at Calzaghes heels yapping like a little mop dog. Now I like him and he has proved himself time and time again. A throwback and over achiever if ever there was one.

Fights anybody anywhere unlike plenty of others afraid to cut the umbilical cord. Just take a peek at his resume starting with Pascal and then compare it to anyone else over the same time period.

People are being brutally unfair with Carl and its part and parcel of this instant gratification boxing era. As early as last night people crying because Garcia never knocked Burgos out and almost immediately questioning Garcia's credentials at 135 or moving up lol. More like fans of the event. It’s hilarious. Anyway I digress...

Carl is in a similar position to the man who's heals he nipped at and oddly enough with the same Org. The Ibf ordered Joe to fight Stieglitz or vacate the title. Although Joe had just kicked the snot out of Lacy he still wanted (as most do) North American exposure and Manfredo was at the top of the world from Contender so he took more cash and more exposure and told the Ibf to take a piss. Smart move. He got Kessler next and became the undisputed 168 champ w/o the silly trinket.

Carl does not have many years left and has worked his ass off. Groves is a kind of fight plan RRSP. The interest grows both literally and figuratively sitting a little while in the bank. Even if Carl were to lose to Chavez the fight with Groves is pretty much a sure thing. Furthermore even if Groves fought for the title Carl vacated, he'd have to fight Carl or been viewed as somewhat a paper champion. Finally if Groves gets a Ward fight there is still that domestic thing to settle. Win/Win

Chavez makes Carl a boat load of cash and he's not obligated to give Groves an immediate rematch whether the Ibf orders it or not. They can take their can of chicken noodle and put it back on the shelf beside the can of vegetable and beef. The Froch/Groves rematch does not need a belt. And just to be clear Chavez was never a middleweight. He merely fought there. He and Carl are the same size. There might be an inch or two differences in height and reach. Shit Chavez will probably outweigh him on fight night.

After all is said and done it may end up being Carl and George anyway. I simply dont buy the reports that a Chavez fight is close and would really scrutinize the sources reporting this. Chavez magically appeared at #2 in the WBC right after the first Vera fight irregardless of it not even being a 168 fight. Firmly in place to fight the old war horse Bika. The Chavez family is well entrenched with the WBC to the point where Jr became the presidents Godson. If there were some serious talks in the works which I doubt, everything has changed with the recent death of Mr. Sulaiman. Its almost a given now and a manner of honour that Jr fights for his Godfathers green and gold.

If Carl somehow gets the fight with Chavez then so what he's earned the payday.
